We try to go to this gallery whenever we can see a new exhibition. Now is a wonderful time to visit as there is a retrospective exhibition of Szenes’ art. The show highlights the development of his work and his willingness to experiment with techniques. Well worth attending. Also the Rato area is fun to explore.

Average modern art pieces from an era when everything could be art. The artists whose stuff is displayed are simply not gifted. Also the lack of non-portugal text was annoying.

The collection that interested me most was the modern native Portuguese artists, Sculptors and Graphic designers. The Masters Collection was not up the standards of many European cities but I was most impressed by the depth of national talent.

It is these types of gems that make a longer stay in a locale worthwhile. This is a tremendous gallery. The main art displayed are two immensely talented artists. I did not know of them previously but their work is genius. In addition the exhibitions this gallery attracts are first rate. If you are in Lisbon for more than a few days visit this wonderful place in Rato

Recommended by local residents. As another reviewer stated, this institution's museum is a true gem. Off the tourist radar which means no crowds, near the aqueduct. Not quite sure what some reviewers did not understand about the museum, but the history was available to read. Urge people considering a visit to look online-research ahead this or any museum to see if it is for their interest, then they don't have to mark a low rating because they were ill-informed. Beautiful innovative modernist art of the period, Second School of Paris, expressionist urban themed art, and luminous landscapes. Art is subjective, you do not have to love everything you see in this nor any museum. But the talent was incredible and to me beautiful results, plus an excellent exhibition. There is a nice cafe-restaurant that was very busy primarily by local business people and residents, so they must be doing something right. But also many restaurants nearby. Really was satisfied by this museum visit. .
