Belem is little outside of Lisbon City Center and Old Town, but don't miss this area! Lots to see and do from Belem Tower to huge Jeronimos Monastery and this beautiful Park/Garden is right in the middle of everything. Sightseeing buses also stop here, so lots of people wandering around. Nice fountain too, so overall worth of visit

The park between the Jeronimos Monastery and the river shore is a nice and relaxing place, great for taking a break from waiting in line or exploring the nearby attractions and monuments.

In front the Mosteiro dos Jeronimus on you way cross down to the river you will enter this wonderful place. In the middle of the garden is a huge fountain. This garden was built for an exhibition in the time of the Dictator Antonio de Oliveira Salazar.

Jardim da Praca do Imperio in Belem is a good place for a break after trekking around the nearby monastery and the tower. Crowded but pleasant park area away from the mad traffic along the main avenida.

This is a beautiful garden and square in the belém area, one of the most touristic in Lisbon. The Jardim do Império was made for an exibition during the time of the dictatorship. It still amazes me everytime I see it. It is one of Lisbons landmarks surrounded by more landmarks around it, like the Centro Cultural de Belém, Mosteiro... More

A good spot to stop bye an enjoy of your picknick. But I 'll not go to that jardim for a "Wauw" effect, there are better ones.

Between the Monterio and the Monument of the Discoveries these precisely laid out gardens make an excellent place to chill out while visiting the other local attractions.

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
