Immense cemetery with a wide variety of tombstones, and masterfully crafted almost like little temples or homes. At first, was startled to see into them — many coffins of different ages, states of decay, decorative detail, and so on. But gradually became accustomed and really took in the details, like photos of loved ones and intricate stained glass. Go to the end for a view of the bridge. Also was there for the cats, but didn’t see any.

Cemiterio dos Prazeres is the Lisbon equivalent of Paris’ famous Père-Lachaise, but without the crowds. While no world famous personalities are buried there, the mausoleums (including the largest in Europe) are works of art, and house the remains of Portuguese nobility, politicians, writers, etc.
The cypress-lined paths are a haven of tranquility and at the far end offer a great view of the 25 April bridge.
The cemetery is in the Campo de Ourique neighborhood, a pleasant tourist-free area.

Beautiful well maintained cemetery. Unfortunately it’s a shame that they/manager do not feed the cats. I brought food and one of the cats was desperately hungry it was so very sad. They were all so very hungry ! While the damn manager in his office has loads of huge cans of wet food and a huge bag of dry food! I ended up pouring fresh water cause he and the other people who work there can’t even do that!! Simply shameful the way they treats animals /cats!!!!

It’s a beautiful cemetery and a nice, uncrowded site in an otherwise crowded Lisbon. I took tram 28 from here, hoping for a seat as it’s the first stop on the route, but it was still a very full tram. I stood in the back for a good view of the city roads.

Easy Uber ride or end of line 28. Nice to wander around. Lot of history there and pretty view of the city. Glad we checked it out

So, yeah, I totally wasn't expecting to be able to peek into the crypts and actually *see* all the coffins on the shelves... A little bit different, but the feral cats were sweet. I definitely recommend a visit, simply to gawk at the enormity of the place.

I found the Cemiterio lovely and poignant, but I'm doing research on end-of-life issues. Not recommended for the easily creeped out or those looking for a morbid thrill; these are real mausoleums of real people from real families. If you can be respectful and appreciate the beauty, go for it.

Quiet place except the airplanes landing.
Tram 28 is going there - final station. Always a good crowd of people.
There is a kiosk - we did not try it.

Peaceful and beautiful cemetery that’s at the terminal for the Tram line 28. Nice crypts and church on the grounds. Recommended

This cemetery is a huge and amazing place...row upon row of elaborate mausoleums, it seems endless...I visited on a dark and rainy day, nobody around, kind of spooky! If you go all to way to the back, there's a great view towards the big bridge
