The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Belém
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.

Whatever is in exhibit, it is not everyone's cup of tea. If it is, you will like it. If it is not, not worth visiting.

Really interesting exhibition, well laid out, good information in Portuguese and English. €2.50 entrance. Worth a visit to learn more about the applied arts in Portugal. Check their website in advance to see what exhibit is currently showing. Easy to get to by bus or rail.

I should have read some review instead of just looking at the overall ratings. The first one would have been sufficient warning. Don't go off the photos posted here. Check their website for current exhibition(s). The current exhibition is just a bunch of wicker baskets. Super lame. Im really disappointed I went out of my way to go here.

This was one of the most disappointing museums I have been too especially considering I went out of my way in 30c to get to it, should have checked the website, doh!

The main exhibition was of weaved baskets, not my tempo!

The other exibition was of the development of the area!

The best thing about the museum is the building and its frescos as its a converted church of sorts.

The toilet was closed for maintenance, kind of sums it up really.

If identical pieces of embroidery in plastic bowlsonthe floor with thesound of running water grills your prawns, then this gallery is for you. Me? I just found the whole place weird, lacking in exhibits and character. Avoid it, is my advice.

With an exhibition of the works of M C Escher this museum has been on a winner. Fortunately for us it’s been extended from first closing date in May till September 16. But if you can’t get there by then the permanent exhibition is well worth visiting. A little warm yesterday with no aircon but not terrible. Very convenient location on the way to Belem and very near the fantastic Bernardo museum at CCB

If you know Escher, even if you don't you probably do, this is an absolute must.

There are almost original 200 Escher pieces here, including most of his most wekll known work.

The exhibition is extremely well thought out, the free audio description are concise, not too long and very informative.

Escher was an amazing graphic artist and this is just wonderful to see his work up close like this.

Simply fantastic.
