The Arco da Rua Agusta is definitely worth a visit as there are 360 degree panoramic views at the top, overlooking the entire city of Lisbon, & out over the river Tagus. The lift brings you almost to the top & the last bit you have to climb some stairs & then you have the freedom to can walk around... More

At the end (or at the beginning . . . depending on which direction you come from) of the main commercial street in Lisbon (Praco do Comercio) , you will come to the Arco Triunfal da Rua Augusta. It is an imposting site and a main tourist attraction.

Caught a glimpse of this from Tram 28, then went back to see in more detail. Fantastic arch leading out onto the Praca de Commercio, wide, Beautiful piazza leading down to the water's edge.

If €9 to get into the castle was a bit too steep and yet the free viewpoints were not quite cutting it then €2.50 to go up the arch is an absolute bargain. The lift will take you to the clock room and then it is a short two flights of stairs to the open air platform at the top... More

At the edge of the square is the great triumphal arch which serves as a sort of entry to the city via the pedestrian street on the other square. The arch has 6 statue's on the side of it and a large one of top, the guide on our Chill out free walking tour told us wetthe all where. They... More

Built after the 1755 earthquake, it is a symbol of Lisbon's regeneration and has an esoteric flavour to boot.

Pretty nice location to get a taste of the history of Lisbon. It's just great to spend the day walking around the area, explore shops and choose a coffee shop after to take a photo at this magnificent architecture!

Like most things in the city, I just stumbled upon this while going along on the tram going elsewhere, a really eye catching arch that hopefully if I am ever back in this city, I will go up and enjoy the view, just ran out of time this visit. Apparently, it is highly recommended, but my recommendation is to go... More

The arch is the entrance to the square on the river....there are lots of bar/restaurants/cafes all around here. There are also tram and bus terminals here.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
