With our Lisboa card in had we ventured to this impressive museum. We really enjoyed this collection of fine art and jewellery, spent ages cruising around taking it all in. We have become lovers of the paintings by Hieronymus Bosch, which the museum has a fine example. Temptation of St. Anthony.

This museum -- in spite of the title -- displays chiefly religious art of the middle ages and early modern period, chiefly from Portugal, but also including major works by Durer and Bosch. The main collection is displayed chronologically, in beautiful spaces, exceptionally well designed for art. The museum also includes work brought back from the rest of the world... More

It was a steep walk up stairs he building was tucked away up the top. Was only about 6€ to enter, and a place to put coats and bags I had a small suitcase. Situated on three levels with other exhibits. A nice coffee shop which served hot meals too in the lower level. Some nice pieces, worth a visit

The collection of paintings is exceptional. Definately worth a visit. The museum itself is also worth the visit. My favourite is their painting by Jeronimus Bosch.

This museum houses an array of paintings and also furnishings, silverware etc. There are benches for those who wish to take a break. Very impressive museum. A definite must visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this museum of ancient Portuguese art and culture. The displays contained a surprising amount of informative detail and historic context, in both English and Portuguese.

A great way to see how the movement of people has enriched and influenced society. Some how we seem to take the best of each of the cultures and keep building on it. This museum seems to capture this.

It's a museum with the kind of collection that you can spend a day or two visiting. They have good temporary expositions as well. Guided visits. Important artists in their main collection. Wheelchair friendly, nice garden to have lunch in a sunny day, good and nit expensive food. Nice view point of the river and cristo Rei statue. One can... More

This is neither a museum nor anything to do with ancient times. It is one of the best art galleries I have visited in many a year. It does not include any modern art, but is otherwise pretty comprehensive. The renovated building is perfect for a gallery and the two cafes are wonderfully situated. If you are into culture and...
