A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!

My mouth is still watering as I write this review!
Jun 2019
After sightseeing in Belem until late afternoon, we sere starving when we got off the tram at Praca de Figueira (via Rossio Square). The food gods blessed us with Mercado Da Baixa! We stumbled into what looked like a large circus tent in the middle of the square and, to our delight, we were surrounded by food stalls with everything from cheeses and meats to fresh breads, to fruits and nuts to fruit juices and Sangria to amazing pastries, and much more. We shared a picnic table (checkered table cloth and all) with friendly Lisbon locals and pigged out on ham & cheese on fresh focaccia, marinated olives, fresh cherries, Sangria, and Belem-style pastries. We loved it so much that we ate there two more times during our 3-day stay in Lisbon.

Street Food!

Lots of delicious meats, cheeses, breads for eating here. Fruit juice and sangria to drink. Sangria was delicious. Also, dried fruit and nuts stand was great. Worth a stop for lunch.

Fun place to eat once.

Very rainy day so market was very crowded. Plateful of grilled chorizos was very good, not greatest. This was basically food only and LOTS of choices, lots of vendors. Seafood, ham only, pork only, chorizo only, candy--candied fruit and caramelized every kind of nut--but €3.95 per hundred grams, so don't go crazy! (That vender gave us a giant bag to fill, but fortunately I had been weighing stuff for my carry on and realized what a small amount it was!)

Nice outdoor food market
Sep 2019
This is a nice little food market in the center of town. They didn't have a huge selection of food but had some options and choices for grabbing a drink and sitting outside on a lovely day.

Street food - the Portuguese way
Oct 2019
A real market feeling with the friendly, vibrating Portuguese hospitality. Great streetfood and sangria, a wide selection of local cakes and desserts - along with quality handcrafts and Fado music at one of the stands. Good impulses - good impressions.

Linguisa & Sangria!
Jul 2019
I somehow find a way to always visit this mini farmer’s market when I visit Lisbon. Located In the Santa Justa parish and close to the Praça do Comercio, a busy area with much bus & tram traffic.

They have a cheese shop, smoked meats/Linguisa, pastries, desserts (Pasteis de Nata of course), sandwiches to name a few. Also, a couple of Sangria booths.

The must stop though is one of the booths that has Linguisa. You get 4-5 varieties per order. A small is enough for two. Pair it with a Sangria or a Super Bock, Sagres & it’s amazing!

Cheap lunchtime eats
Jun 2019 • Couples
When you are in the centre of Lisbon and want a cheap roll or Sangria this is the place to be. Consisting of lots of small cubicles selling food and drink mainly it is fairly cheap if you don't want a restaurant meal. There are tables and benches around the outside and some smaller standing tables inside. Take some wet wipes as it does get a bit sticky! Wheelchair ramps in situ. Don't go for a plate full of cheese as you don't get much bread, better to get the sandwich or croque monsieur.
