This was a huge place. The open area before you even get to the basilica is massive. It was a long walk from where our useless tour guide let us off.
We thought the basilica was beautiful inside, especially the ceilings and statues. We were glad we got to see it.

April weather wasn't too bad. I think in the heat of summer this could be brutal to have to walk so far with no cover from the heat. Rain wouldn't be so good either. I would make sure to have an umbrella and a hat if visiting in the summer.

This is a stark and cold looking church both outside and inside. It is devoid of adornment, and looks more like an auditorium than a church.

When we saw it from distance I questioned what "bunker is built here" because of its concrete exterior. But going inside was - WOW! I saw many modern churches but this is something else - and I have to say I don't very much like modern churches. This Basilica is modern but beautiful, utterly functional with benches for around 9 thousand people. The only decoration inside is behind the altar which is magnificent golden/bronze mosaic. We entered from the side which is directly opposite the old (main) Basilica. It's also impressive, there is sound of running water, the wall is decorated with bronze plates with various images related to Catholic religion/Bible, the doors are huge and beautiful. Both me and my husband (who isn't religious person like I am) said this is beautiful. We have to congratulate the architects.

This is the large minor basilica located near the southwest end of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima. It is a circular building of simple, modern architecture designed to be functional over decorative. The Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity was opened in 1986, dedicated in 2007 and had its status elevated to that of minor basilica in 2012.

You will find a large interior auditorium and seating area with a capacity of around 9000 people. The main altar features a gilded religious image behind a contemporary crucifix and image of Christ. There are subterranean chapels that you can access directly to the northeast of the basilica as well as several statues of Popes and a 34-metre tall High Cross monument situated around The Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity.

Very modern church that seats over 8,500 worshippers. Consecrated in 2007 and made a Basilica in 2012. If there wasn't Christ on a crucifix, you won't know it is a church

A huge Crucifix sits in front of basilica. At the other end of the esplanade sits the Basilica de Nossae Senhora de Fatima.

You see worshippers on their knees starting here going to the other Basilica.

An interesting building, well worth a visit though, remember, the doors are closed when a service is going on.

This is the huge church on the other side of the Sanctuary from the main Basilica. It is a huge church that fits approx. 9000 and is used, we were told, when the weather is too cold or rainy to be outside. The Cathedral is modern and of course huge. There is a pretty gold, bronzea and white mosaic picture of the lamb of God, Mary, the children and several Saints, that is beautiful. A large crucifix is over the artwork and altar.

I travelled across the ocean to attend mass in this mega church which has the atmoshphere of an auditorium. The crucifix has disturbing features, and the modern icons along the wall have a cartoonish, rather than a sacred, quality.
The exterior resembles an unidentified flying object; we walked around three quarters of the circular structure in order to find the entry door.
Outside of the basilica is a large brutalist cross made out of industrial steel. The corpus cannot be inferred to be Christ based on the shape; it borders on mockery and blashpemy.
This structure is an architetural embarrasment, and leads one to question what people of faith would allow this to be built.
I went to Fatima as part of a personal vow, and the traditional church across the square is beautiful, but this basilica where I fulfilled my Sunday obligation is not worth setting foot into.

You might mistake it for a protestant church. The minimalist design is not fitting for Fatima. Did not like it at all. It does not feel spiritual.
