We loved going inside a volcano and viewing the incredible rocks, plant life, and other beauties. The photos don't really do it justice at all. 6euros per person entrance, but buy a combo ticket for 9 Euros and see Christmas Cave, as well.

It was a unique experience to descend around 300 steps deep into an extinct volcanic crater chimney/ cave and to imagine it full of lava. The naturalists at bottom were eager to inform and answer every question of which we had plenty.

To me it was unique experience to be inside a volcano looking up to the sky through the crater. It was fascinating to see how the lava formed the cave on it's way out. A small glimpse of how the Earth is made.

Visit to this cave was extraordinary, we felt like coming into the middle of our Earth. Sheer beauty and fantasy, full of colours and unexpected experience.

Walk into an extinct volcano and experience the rock formations and colours. An incredible experience! There are about 330 steps down and then back up and lighting is dark in places so you do need to be reasonably mobile and fit for the walk -...More

I believe it's open all year round. We were there in January. It is only open in the afternoon. Enjoy your trip. I love the Azores!

It's approximately ten minutes by car. You should absolutely do the combined ticket and see both if you have a car.
