I visited this synagogue again after 19 years. It had been in a terrible, dilapidated condition. After years of fundraising in the United States and persuading the Portuguese government to help, the synagogue was restored and made a national museum. It is truly a beautiful...More

I try to visit every synagogue in remote places whenever I arrive at.Most of them has a history directly connected to the history of the country/city in which they are located. It does not matter if this synagogue is big or small, modest or grandiose,...More

A Jewish treasure in the heart of the Azores. This is a definite stop when vacationing in the Azores or during a cruise excursion. Recently renovated and finally becoming a tourist attraction, this is the last remaining vestige of Judaism in the Azores. It is...More

This synagogue with its museum shows the stately past of the vanished Jewish community of Ponta Delgada. Though the synagogue is not very big it is impressing, and the two rooms museum is full of very interesting details and pictures.worth a visit.

The synagogue itself is fairly traditional European, nothing special, but a wonderful place for a destination wedding, or a quiet meditation, (or a personal mincha!). However, the history of Azorean Jewry, written up (in English) on the walls of the lower room, is fascinating, especially...More

This is a restored synagogue which is now a museum of Jewish life in Ponta Delgada. There are a number of exhibits which are quite interesting from a historical perspective. Why the "A"? Because the local population should be applauded for trying to preserve a...More

A museum of Jewish presence in Ponta Delgada. Very interesting. A place, also, of prayer and of our Christian roots. We feel at peace.
