This synagogue with its museum shows the stately past of the vanished Jewish community of Ponta Delgada. Though the synagogue is not very big it is impressing, and the two rooms museum is full of very interesting details and pictures.worth a visit.

The synagogue itself is fairly traditional European, nothing special, but a wonderful place for a destination wedding, or a quiet meditation, (or a personal mincha!). However, the history of Azorean Jewry, written up (in English) on the walls of the lower room, is fascinating, especially...More

A museum of Jewish presence in Ponta Delgada. Very interesting. A place, also, of prayer and of our Christian roots. We feel at peace.

This little gem of a synagogue and the accompanying exhibits are a testament to the importance of the faith of what was a relatively small Jewish community. As mentioned by previous reviewers, the building has been carefully restored and documents the history of the Jews...More

Simple but true and colorful presentation of great predecessors' life in the Azores. I am grateful to the two young men who guided us during our visit.

The synagogue/museum was very well organized and documented. It gave insights into the arrival of the Jews in Sao Miguel, their role in the community, and the outcomes of the expulsion and burning of Jews at the stake. The young men who were working at...More

We did not know about the flurishing Jewish population until we learned about it at the synagogue. The population decreased drastically with the decline of the orange trade and the synagogue fell in to disrepair for many years. It is now lovingly restored and defintely...More

Though small, this synagogue/museum is an interesting look at Ponta Delgada's history, with photos, narratives, and objects of the city's past Jewish population.
