Since the purpose of my visit to the Azores was to hike around lakes, I parked my car at the viewpoint Vista do Rei and started my hike down on a cool, drizzly morning. I was the only person on the hike and followed a path that is also used for ATV's. Due to the bad weather and lucky for... More

Did a full round trek around the lake, took about 6hours, starting and ending at Vista Do Rei (There is an abandoned hotel there, pretty cool, you won't miss it). Was expecting some great stuff but it's incredibly disappointing. Absolutely nothing like the pictures. The trek is surrounded by overgrowth and plants higher than you which covers the view. There's... More

Maybe overrated views of two lakes, at least during the winter. But our guess is that the flowers are overwhelming during the spring.

We drive around Sao Miguel island with the Caldeira dad Sete Cidades as our destination. We like driving the roads less traveled and took us a few hours to reach. Once we were in the area the views were amazing. We were lucky and did check with the hotel and were told the area is clear, we were told the... More

We decided to start from the Monte Palace (abandoned hotel) and took a long 8 km walk around the lakes, the views were amazing however the weather was super moody so be prepared to walk in raid/wind/fog/sun all at the same time ;) Funny part is that 1/3 (last part) of the trail is via bitumen road and there are... Even though the weather was rainy and windy we had great views of the crater, the farmland and lakes. Didn't see the blue and green differentiation though!Did the walk along the perimeter into the town, more stunning views. Got a taxi back to the parking lot from town. Luckily were told to go into the restaurant to get them to... More

Beautiful place. A breathtaking view. If you go inside the abandoned hotel in Vista do Rei you can have a better view form the rooms facing the lagoons.
