This was quite disappointing. When they told us it was 45min just €5 I thought it would be worth it. It’s no more than 40-50mt lava have in which 10-15mt is a concrete tunnel. The guide stretched out his talk to reach the 45min tour....More

This was an interesting experience. Be aware that you need to wear a protective cap and a hard-hat, which can get a bit hot. Don't go if you have problems walking on uneven floors.

Cave is a bit off the center, so call them before you go. You have 2 options - classic 30 minutes or longer excursion for more extreme adventure (they don't do that very often). We went for 30 minutes tour, which lasted 70 minutes and...More

Certainly not the most exciting or breathtaking tourist attractions on the island, but if you enjoy a fairly quick journey below ground to see what a volcano can leave behind, then pay your 5 euros for a educational tour given by friendly and knowledgeable staff.

You can opt for a short or long tour of the Gruta do Carvão — the short one is under an hour all in all, and gives you a look at two medium-large cave areas, together with a very interesting explanation of the history of...More

The lava tube tour is interesting. We called in the morning and they had only 3 spots left for tours that day. They turned several people away before the tour started as they were full. It was about a 45 minute experience. They have a...More

It is damp in the caves and the ground surface is very uneven in places as the lava has left rugged and quite spikey areas. As long as your footwear is strong enough to protect your feet and the soles are non slip and thick... More
