Incredible place! You need to go! When the weather is good! The view is magic! No bus to go there. So relaxing

The second best spot of Sao Miguel for us. As nice as Sete Cidades, however even more difficult to see it in good condition because it's very often cloudy (it's one of the highest spot of the island). A webcam is available from internet, check...More

Midweek visit. Check webcams before you go here to give you an idea of how cloudy it will be. But even if it is a bit cloudy which I think it is most of the time, its still worth it as the sun pops out...More

Youngest crater lake on the Island, only 300,000 years old... Breathtaking views from the top of the crater edges - you just need to get there in good weather, otherwise all you see from the top is clouds all around you. A medium-hard descent to...More

There are a number of ways to visit this place. You can walk up to the edge of the lake itself with a longish trek, drive to it and look down as per the headline photo, or drive to it and then walk down to...More

Just great ! We had very variable weather on second trip so Fogo looked out of the question but we took a risk and the cloud seemed to lift so said let's give Fogo a go - the sun came out the cloud lifted for...More

If you have time and are physically able to hike down to the lake, do it. The view from the lookout is stunning, but they get even better as you get closer. The hike itself should be manageable for any reasonably fit person (my friend...More

This is a must visit if in Sao Miguel. We went there via 4X4. The views are spectacular. We went there on a foggy day and still it was beautiful to see.

There is three ways to get to the Lagoa: the very easy one, by car assuming you have 4 wheel drive. The easy one, along the levada and the straneous one through the mountains. We took the last one and took 2 hours to get...More

Another gem is the fogo lake. Very pretty long lake, actually connection of 2 lakes, which can be seen from a high viewpoint, and it looks amazing. Then down the road, there is a possibility to hike down to it & enjoy the water. The...More

I don't believe there is public transport to the mountain. We rented a vehicle and drove to the top(rim) and then hiked down. I did notice several couples coming from the bottom and hiking up as we were going down. There are... More

There is a paved road going to the top of the hill overlooking the lake, but I really would not see it as a hiking area. You would want to take a vehicle to the top. Once there, you will find plenty of easy places to walk... More
