A great stop to learn about the history of the whaling industry of Pico. Fantastic B&W film from the 70’s tells the tale. A beautifully executed Maritime museum complete with a library, and changing exhibits

Very nice museum telling the story of whale hunting over the years in a modern way. Recommeded for all ages.

A fascinating museum from a repurposed whale processing plant honoring the whaling tradition of Pico Island and the Azores. There's a fascinating documentary made before whaling was banned in the Azores in 1982 (respecting the issuance of a global moratorium on whaling).

Some wonder examples of scrimshaw as well.

This is a nice little museum. Does not take long to visit, but make sure you see the video about how whaling was done on Pico.

A small but very well done museum. To realize what whaling was really about this is a must. I must admit that it is sometimes not pretty but there is enough at this museum about the culture of this whaling community to make it worthwhile.

This museum had a wealth of knowledge of the local culture and the whaling industry. The staff was very hospitable and answered all our questions. The facility is not very big and can be see in an hour or less. Have information in both Portuguese and English. Recommended for those who enjoy learning about the area's local history.

Realistic accounts of the whaling activities on Pico. Not an easy theme to cover, but put well in perspective of the survival needs of the islanders at that time. Film in English and most exhibits translated - an interesting exhibition.

It was quite upsetting to see the whale trade history - photos of magnificent whales being killed and gutted for their oil - they didn't eat the meat. It's a small museum but only 2 euros to go in and they have the old equipment and vehicles they used to use for the whale trade which ended in 1984. I'm glad I went but be prepared to be upset.
