Great views of the Pico volcano! Also the usual fresh water shower and bathrooms and plenty of parking.
The waves are large and the water is cold and there’s seaweed in the water. The black volcanic sand is not soft. So it’s not really a place to hang out for an extended period of time. There is a small pier that has a ladder going down into the water so can swim there, although temporarily since the water is cold. There are people laying out on the pier area sunbathing.
In comparison, Praia do Porto Pim has calmer seas, warmer water and is an overall better place for a beach afternoon.

They do a brilliant job on this island with toilets and showers and life guards. Excellent!!!! Good large beach, dark sand and you can go out along way before you are deep. Great for the children. Watch out for the man of war jellyfish though...They aren't always there but i would give it a miss if they are.

Situated about 3 km north of the capital Horta, this long beach of black volcanic sand is the safest and most sheltered bathing beach on Faial island. There are a couple of bars and restuarants and a large park behind it, showers, public toilets and a quayside from which you can dive into the warm clear water. I swam in October and the water temperature was still a pleasant 22C

There are several public beaches on Faial Island and all are beautiful. Since the weather is rather mild there are plenty of days to visit the beach and swim or relax on the sand.

There are many charming campsites in the Azores. This is not one of them. There's nothing wrong with it, its just very functional. Also, while we were there the prevailing wind direction meant that it was very exposed (wind and rain) and it also had 2 large groups of teenagers staying. The other campsite at Varadouro was far nicer.

We just went for the scenery, not for sunbathing neither swimming. But it is a beautiful bay and have a nice restaurant.

This is a popular beach (though deserted when we visited it on a sunny day in mid-May!), not far from Faial's main town, Horta. The best feature has to be the stunning views of Pico Mountain.

Don’t miss this spot! Almoxarife beach is a pure spot not to be missed! It is also a surf beach with some nice cafes and restaurants with authentic local cuisine ... also a camp area hosted by the city hall with clean showers and bathrooms and even a snack and barbecues to cook your own meals... have fun!

Easy to reach and close to Horta, this is a very nice place to visit for a few hours - in season. When we were there in October it was practically vacant. Weather is certainly a key factor for a day of family fun at the beach. There is lovely picnic area as well. It's certainly worth a stop and a walk about.

This beach with black sand is just incredible. We went there on a really windy day, with some extremely large waves kicking in. Good thing the life guards where on duty.
