We very much enjoyed this small well organized museum of Horta. The topics ranged from pianos and paintings to crossing the Atlantic in airplanes in the early 1900’s to telegraph communications. The visit can be made in an hour and the fee of 2 Euro...More

This is a cute little museum in Horta with interesting exhibits on the history of communication and air transportation related to the island (it played a more important role in early transatlantic transportation than I realized!), religious paintings, and some fascinating "sculptures" made of fig...More

The museum is part of the large Jesuitical complex and houses a large variety of items. Most striking are the sculptures made of fig tree kernel and Horta as the centre of aviation and telecommunication in the Atlantic. Free entry on Sundays.

A well put place with lots of stories to tell. I loved the fact that it was so quiet and had lots of videos explaining the struggles and giving the visitor a taste of how life evolved on the island. I recommend it ☺ TH

At just €2 each when we visited this would have been worth it just to escape the rain, but we really enjoyed it! Not big by any means but a fair few different collections on show. Decorative papercutting and models created from the insides of...More
