Beautiful, eerie and a wonder to see! The day we visited was quite windy and the volcanic sand got into our eyes, ears, clothes and hair but it was okay as it added to the senses. The lighthouse there is magnificent and so lonely. The colors...More

This is not only a museum but a great outdoor learning area. After touring the museum we were asked if we wanted to climb up in the lighthouse. It is a self guided climb of about 140 steps to the top. Fortunately the weather cooperated...More

The image of the lighthouse, stark against the grey ash and blue sea was worth seeing but that really was all there is to it. Other Volcanic areas, say in the Canary Islands are more interesting but on an island with limited things to see...More

Great geological spot that was created only 60 years ago! Amazing volcanic activity has left new land on Faial that you can explore, climb and hike.

Knowing that this place of Faial is created only 60 years ago makes it an interesting place. The lookout point is great and gives you a good view of the whole place. Do combine visiting it with a walk around the nearby located pico's.

Easy to access area, about 30 mins from Horta. We did not go in, but there is supposedly a very interesting museum, lighthouse , and gift shop. Very cool to see this landscape that was formed from volcanic activities in the 50s. Next to Capelinhos...More

I've never seen a place like this. The visit is mandatory if you're in the island. You can see a lot of birds, and how the plants try to grow despite the coinditions.... Beautiful nature

This is an incredible landscape - not that many opportunities to see the landscape and safely walk on volcanic rock around a 60 year old volcano! Pay the 1 euro to climb the lighthouse to the top you'll get a good bird view of the...More

A trip to see Capelinhos Volcano outside of Horta, is a very worthwhile experience. This area is a result of numerous earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in 1957/58. We rented a scooter, and enjoyed the quiet roads. We checked out the futuristic visitor centre, before heading...More
