After the long walk up the hill, we were delighted to find the castle open on a Sunday afternoon in November. As over 65s we're we're pleased to pay the half rate of €1.40 each. In fact it was really worth more than that... my husband walked all the way around the walls but I found the lack of barriers... More

Lovely Moorish castle. Very clean and well kept. Great castle walls which are very easy to walk around, with wonderful views. It was great seeing all the storks in their nests, from the castle. Nice cafe inside. Cheap to visit.

Someone in our hotel suggested we go to Silves. It has a lovely castle. And a nice town. They were right. We ended up spending 5 hours in this town. The castle is worth a visit, it even has a coffee shop in the middle of the grounds!! Also the church and museum. Plenty of little coffee shops and we... More

Nice clean castle with amazing views over Silves. Worth a visit for an hour before going into Silves centre for a lunch/dinner. €2.80 per adult entrance, €3.50 if u want to visit the museum as well. Small restaurant inside the castle with free wifi serving snacks and small meals.

The castle looks good from a distance from its position on the top of the hill in Silves, in particular the red stone, which is at odds with the greys and buff tones of other European castles. The outer walls are largely intact and it is possible (and recommended) to walk the entire circuit for the views over the town... More

Visited on a day out from the beach but wasn't that impressed with the castle. On the upside it was inexpensive & we saw some good views from the top of the ramparts.

Got a combi family ticket at the museum which was excellent value as are all public funded attractions in Portugal. All the ramparts are accessible giving commanding views over the town and surroundings. The backyards are just as interesting as the stork nest sites and ancient history.

I have found much of Portugal to be neglected and very much in need of loving care and / or restoration. However, Silve and in particular Castelo de Silve was a real lift. The walls are as they and easy to walk. Views wonderful. The enclosure has maintained a Portuguese integrity that speaks of care and is true reflection of... More

Castle overlooking Silves and the countryside. Short uphill walk from town and normal entrance fee is only €2.80. In very good condition and renovation works are continuing. Good views of town & countryside from top of castle walls and great for photographs

Casual visit marred by receptionist who is considerably younger than my youngest daughter but in fairness older than my grand children insisting on photo ID and age evidence. Surprisingly I had it with me but did not proffer deciding to pay. She doesn't realise she's in the entertainment business and money comes from people like me being happy and coming... More
