This beach is an 'Official Nudist Beach'. Please see the photo attached which has accreditation from Portimão Camara / Council, Algarve Tourism, Portugal Naturist Federation and the International naturist organisation.
I would personally like to thank Portimão Camara for taking the step to make this official, naturism is a pure and good activity promoting health, body positivism etc. I would also like to thank the Camara for replacing the earlier notice board that had been damaged.
The beach is now a nudist beach and the sign clearly signs that you should not wear clothes, if you want to wear a costume there are so so many wonderful beaches nearby please respect that this is the only dedicated nudist beach. Also a beach to enjoy the beauty of nature, the sign says no ball games, photography or music.
Because of these rules this beach is wonder peaceful, stunning scenery and the vibe is very gentle and calm. I have seen many happy family groups, couples and singles. The beach is gay friendly too.

I can totally NOT agree with the comment below. The people who are going there are most likely locals, who are used to be naked at the beach. It is completely irrational to think it’s just for “GAY MAN COUPLE” even tho this sounds very discriminatory and homophobic. If you don’t want to see the natural human body, please don’t go there. If you are not open minded, please don’t go there. If you can not accept every human being, PLEASE DONT GO THERE, because we had a beautiful experience and I don’t want it to be destroyed from conservative people. If you’re not used to climb ( a little bit, it’s not that hard ) bring shoes instead of slippers. All in all the most beautiful beach we went to at algarve, just to recommend.

There are so many amazing places around this area, but Joao de Arens Beach is one of the most fascinating I have seen! I took a coast walk starting at Praia do Vau and saw a lot of beautiful spots, but this beach was the highlight! I recommend coming here at low tide so you can go through the rock tunnel and visit the almost untouched neighbour beach that actually is rather like a sandbank. Every meter of walking and every minute of getting up earlier is worth it, don't miss this stunning place!

The taxi man didn't know where it was, then I walked in circles for over 1 hr (sat nav), then I almost died trying to climb the cliffs. I've watched too much reddit to know how this will end. In the end, the journey became too dangerous, and I never made it to the beach

This whole area has a very special energy and is quite magical. Especially evident in the quieter months. It really is unspoilt and walking here can restore and refresh all at the same time. It’s my local beach less than a ten minute walk so I’m very lucky to be able to enjoy it anytime. It’s so amazing I’m happy to share it! You won’t be disappointed!

Joao de Arens Beach is next to Vau Beach but it takes a lot of scrambling along the cliffs to reach the beach. There's no vehicular access so it's 20 minutes' walk and a difficult descent. It's a very small cove partly hidden from the cliffs above so naturalism is allowed. There are no facilities of any kind.

Probably one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been in my life. The views are spectacular! Definitely the most beautiful naked gay beach in Portugal. Access is difficult but totally worth it!

Nice naturism beach to enjoy with peace of mind. Please be respectful and don’t take pictures. Good for sunbathing but not very nice for swimming since there is a lot of rocks in the beach.

Where do you park to access the beach? Do you have to walk a fair bit? I am looking at Google maps and don't really see any specific parking. Thanks!
