Estoi is a short distance from Faro. As well as a splendid pousada (hotel in a converted palace) and charming little plaza there is, a short walk away, a Roman villa site. This also convenient if you arrived, as we did, by local bus: a...More

Interesting roman villa. Beautiful preserved mosaics. The walls were unearthed and easy to imagine how rich romans lived. I was looking at the bricks and stones last touched by the slave who built the walls.

Wow you really get your fill for a mere 2 Euros. To see the mosaics still in wonderful shape after 1600 years is amazing. Nothing is roped off so you can get up close and personal with the ruins. I tried not to walk on...More

We enjoyed our visit to the Roman remains of Milreu. The gentleman selling tickets was unhelpful and unfriendly when I asked if there was a cafe & didn't suggest the 2 cafes down the road, nor the drinks dispenser just inside the entrance! The mosaics...More

Near the vilage d'Estoi you can visit the roman ruins of an ancient roman villa; nice mosaic with a relief of swimming fishes is to admire; the site archaeologique is to explore in the nature, for a culture activity.

This is a small Roman villa with not too much now left, but enough to see how it was laid out and with some mosaics left to see. We found it interesting and worth the €2 entrance fee.

The whole site is marvellous. We went on a sunny Sunday morning - the site was quiet and we felt we had it virtually to ourselves. The mosaics are amazing - and you can just wander about and soak up the atmosphere. There lovely views...More

Only 11km out of Faro, this Roman villa is well worth the drive out, a well excavated site, it had many mosaics which are well preserved and an interesting exhibition, an interesting hour or two can easily be spent here.

The mosaics are amazing, probably should have got a guide book though. There isn't a huge amount of explanation of what you can see. Time your trip carefully if travelling by public transport, it really does only take an hour and you can end up...More
