This is a very nice aqueduct and it's huge. It sits right outside of the historic center of Elvas. Visit and see the wild flowers that sit outside the walls.

Right next to the main car parks. The aqueduct is constructed on an epic scale formed of multiple, superimposed arches. Heavy buttressed in places it forms a dramatic sight.

Amazing 400 year old aqueduct, Spectacular sight that cannot be missed, literally. Parking at the base of the tallest part makes it easy to stop and admire this spectacular construction

Elvas is a portuguese lazy town, near the border with Spain, in the Portuguese region of Alto Alentejo.
Is the largest walled city in Europe and a large part of the ancient city was built inside the fortified walls.
The Aqueduto da Amoreira is one of the most beautiful monuments in Elvas and one of its "ex-libris" and was used for a long period to trasnport drinkable water to the walled city, even during the period of the war against Spain, once the Aqueduto is very high and therefore almost undestructible by the ancient weapons.

Very impressive example of historical aquaduct architecture, the sheer scale is amazing to see, difficult to imagine the amount of work it took to build!!

We drove from Sevilla to Lisbon, just had a stop for several minutes in Elvas and we saw an architecture in the Roman time. What an amazing surprise!

This aqueduct is huge - 8km long and 4 stories high. Extremely well preserved structure from 16th century but it took them ages to finish it ,due to the lack of funds.

Good spot to get an overall view is from the Fortifications at the Esquina Gate and Capella at western end of Av. 14 de Janeiro. You can see the full extent in the landscape.
There is parking inside the gate.
