About
Until the renovation in 2010/11, the Slovenj Gradec Music School was housed in the birthplace of the worldwide famous composer of late Romantic music, Hugo Wolf. Today, the building has been transformed into a memorial museum, part of which is also the International Hugo Wolf Documentation Centre. Hugo Wolf’s birthplace functions under the patronage of the Carinthian Regional Museum and it is also the seat of the Slovenj Gradec Hugo Wolf Association. The project Sound of the Past Brought to Life was carried out during Maribor’s tenure as European Culture Capital 2012 and it enabled a complete renovation of the house, the opening of the memorial exhibition about Hugo Wolf’s life and the establishment of the International Hugo Wolf Documentation Centre.

I attended the lovely summer jazz concert, which hapenned in the time i visited Sovenj Gradec. The building itself and its lovely atrium where the concert was held, has its unique charm. They hosted young really talented musicans from Slovenia, so i spent a nice evening with friends there.
Next day i visited the memorial musium, cause i was curious who this composer was. I had a very nice guide that led me through the exhibition. She told me also, that they reviving the house with music concerts, music workshops for kids and other interesting events.

It was worth seeing it!

Birthplace of Hugo Wolf is a small museum dedicated to the life of this amazing musician. Museum is arranged in a old family house, where Hugo Wolf lived for a good part of his short live.

Museum is quite modest. You can see some original furniture of Hugo Wolf, including his piano, some letters and some of his works. Nice posters with pictures and extensive information about the Hugo Wolf`s life represent a big part of this museum.

Overall this is a nice, informative museum, but is not one of the most interesting ones. I would recommend you see it with a guide, who will tell you a lot of additional information.
