It was interesting to see how the vessel came into the coastal zone hit these on. Most times vessels are brought by the natural water standing on its sides. This is head on . Not worth a line detour

I always loved to stop there and see the birds on the wreck and take a few more photos but over the last few years the beggars and "car watchers "that try to sell illegal precious stones are really intimidating and have ruined the place for us.

not a true shipwreck, this is a trawler that is relatively recent wreck rather than a true ship, but worth a stop nonetheless esp if you are traveling between Hentisbay and Swakopmund

one of few wrecks still in relatively good shape. but will be destroyed by ailments in a short time like the rest of them. but locals gather here, trying to sell you stones. i understand, living must be made somehow, but those stones, man. they try to sell them to you everywhere. and for a lot. there are many sellers and hard to get rid of. sort of hard to take in the area.
if it's windy, bring warm clothes.

The local hustlers and "car watchers"hanging around there are really irritating. Would have loved to stay longer to take some photos.

Worth doing a half day trip from Swakopmund to see the Zeila shipwreck on route to Hentiesbaai. Very interesting to see.

The Zeila Shipwreck is a must-see attraction if you are driving between Hentisbaii and Swakopmund. The shipwreck is well marked on the road (the C34), and just a few hundred meters from the turnoff. This shipwreck is impressive because of how close to the shore it is, making it easy to photograph. The plentiful nesting cormorants on the ship are great for birdwatchers.
The downside to the Zelia's accessibility is that the small beach area is rife with people selling gemstones. Even when traveling in the low season, you will be immediately approached once you park your car, and harangued most of your entire stay. You can briefly escape the sellers by walking down towards the wreck, since the sellers stay up in the parking area. If you do want to buy a gemstone you can barging for one, but keep in mind that you can also find your own along many beaches on Namibia's coast.

Lovely to see the shipwreck , we had researched it a little so knew a bit about it which was nice .
The hawkers selling their “rocks” are pretty annoying they are pushy and do leave a sour taste in your mouth for trying to enjoy your time on the beach without being bugged . Was a nice break to the trip enroute Hentiesbaai

This fishing trawler run aground on August 25th 2008 about 14km from South of Hentiesbaai.
The vessel was sold as scrap metal to an Indian company, got stranded after it came loose from its towing line while on its way to Bombay, shortly after it left Walvis Bay.
Nice photo opportunity

We were driving from Twyfelfontein to Swakopmund in one day and did not have time to turn north at Hentiesbaai to see Cape Cross or the Skeleton coast. The Zelia shipwreck is easily seen from the C34 coast road just south of Hentiesbaai. We stopped for half an hour and got some great photos. There are no services around the parking area. There were the usual sellers of trinkets but they were not pushy. Highly recommended.
