Overview
More
In all, 5,139 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War are buried or commemorated in the enclosures of Bedford House Cemetery. 3,011 of the burials are unidentified but special memorials commemorate a number of casualties known or believed to be buried among them. Other special memorials name casualties buried in other cemeteries whose graves could not be found on concentration. Second World War burials number 69 (3 of which are unidentified). There are 2 Germans buried here. Bedford House Cemetery is located 2.5 Km south of Ieper town centre. The cemetery lies on the Rijselseweg (N336), the road connecting Ieper to Armentieres. From Ieper town centre the Rijselsestraat runs from the market square, through the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road. The road name then changes to the Rijselseweg. The cemetery itself is located 2 Km after this crossroads on the left hand side of the Rijselseweg.

Visited as my great uncle is among those buried there. I was not prepared for the sheer size of this cemetery. Beautiful and serene.

Went back with friends are an earlier visit with wife. Still some of the most impressive war grave sites. Built around a moat of country house.

A well maintained quiet cemetery. A mixture of gravestones from Britain, Australian and NZ. Good explanation at entrance about the site.

A well-kept and quiet ceremony. The remains of Bedford House cellar really emphasise the destruction of the wars, and the sheer amount of gravestones is incredibly moving.

We have visited this cemetery regularly since 1983, and every time it is in immaculate condition. It is touching, and a reminder of the futility of war, to see a couple of German graves in with the commonwealth ones.

A quiet cemetery within easy reach of Ypres is well worth a visit as it is immaculate and a fitting resting place for those that sacrificed so much.

From the road presents as a fairly small Commonwealth War Cemetery but on further inspection it highlights the tragic losses of the Great War - over 5000 graves. And all are immaculately maintained by the CWGC.

Of all the sites I have visited, this is the most ideal for peaceful and tranquil reflection. Beautifully tended, very extensive , with water features and trees. This is my second visit, and it was just as moving. Great work by the CWGC.
