- hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,299 contributionsVisiting Ieper. When you are visiting the city of “Ieper”, do not forget to pop into the “Flanders Filed Museum” This museum tells us the historical story of the “First World War” in the West Flemish front region. The Museum is housed in the rebuilt Cloth Halls of Ypres, who are an important symbol of war suffering and resurrection. From this symbolic accommodation, the museum also pays great attention to the contemporary landscape as one of the last tangible witnesses. During your visit you also have the option to go and climb 231 extra steps you can look out over the city and the surrounding battlefields from the restored Belfry. Very recommandabel.Visited December 2022Written 19 January 2023
- John FLane Cove, Australia85 contributionsDisappointed, as I was expecting so much more!I found this museum confusing and weird. It's like they are trying to cater only for Gen Y (or should that be Gen X) and have forgotten that most visitors are more interested in the story then the gimmicks. The cost is OK but the idea of the interactive wristband does't work. The signage is terrible. I had no idea where I was supposed to be going and where I was. More confusing were the movies that were being shown and all you could hear was the voices from the movie in the next area. It's a shame as the venue is ideal and the collection of WW1 material is outstanding.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 April 2023
- LondonFridayGurugram (Gurgaon), India212 contributionsMust go up the tower! It’s a really interesting and well presented museum with some very good film exhibits (especially the one in the weird circular pod) but just a bit too much for me - lots of quite similar exhibits and stories of real people. It was quite exhausting. For me, less would have meant more. I’d have liked to find out more about the rebuilding of the town - why they did it how they did it (and how they did it so quickly) but that was really only a small part of the experience. We did the walk (ie climb) up the clock tower and that was really good and made the whole event.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 April 2023
- BlueAliasLondon, United Kingdom12 contributionsA must visit! We’ve been here many times as a family and it’s the best example in the region if you want to delve in to the history. Exhibits and context throughout are fantastic. As frequent visitors to the town and surrounding areas, we always find time for a tour. In addition to the artefacts and well scripted tour, you have the added bonus of being able to poke around this stunning building snd climb the tower if you have the knees for it. Super place and fairly priced. We will visit again soon, as our two teens find the tour humbling too. Keep up the good work.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 April 2023
- Mike T.Derby, United Kingdom64 contributionsThis Museum Was HugeWe arrived at the museum a little later in the day, about 4 hours before close. And it has a paired offer to buy discounted tickets with the Ypres Museum next door. We asked for the grouped ticket but the man at the desk warned we may not have time for both. (You can spread the visits over 3 days but we were only in Ypres for 1 day.) At first I thought he was exaggerating. 4 hours in 1 museum? I was wrong. This museum is full to the brim with interesting videos, interactive activities, walls full of information and a vast amount of artifacts. The information was available in multiple languages, which is always a relief in a country whose language you don't speak. And to top it all off, for a small extra cost, you can climb to the top of the tower and get some great views of the city. We didn't quite spend 4 hours in the museum but I don't think we would have had time for the other one. So make sure if you want to visit both, you arrive early or are spending more than one day in the city.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 April 2023
- Tom_is_KosherSingapore, Singapore27 contributionsInsightful WW 1 Museum. Worth a VisitBased on the poem “in Flanders’ Fields” the museum successfully attempts to demonstrate the universal horrors of war. The context is the First World War, but the displays mange to connect past conflicts with the present. They do an excellent job at presenting the futility of war.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 9 July 2023
- Sherpa229633949912 contributionsYepres Museum ReviewVery good museum overall Lots of interesting history pieces especially on WW1.it was full of people and tourists and staff was very friendly to a bunch of school teens like us. Only bad thing was that it was quite cold snd phone connection wasn’t amazing. Apart from that very good time would definitely recommend! 9/10Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 15 July 2023
- beccalouhBasingstoke, United Kingdom33 contributionsWould recommend for families want to learn about the warVery interesting museum charting WW1 and the area. Interactive wrist bands helped to keep our children engaged and lots to look at if you don’t want to read all the text. We also went up the bell tower which gave great views over the city. The stairs are long and spiral, not for the faint heartedVisited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 July 2023

- DanielandJocelynStony Point, New York71 contributionsInformative but Best for Older ChildrenIt is an excellent place to learn about the beginnings of WW1, history of the area and the ugliness of war. Our 9 year old was just a bit too young to understand. This museum may be best for children over 12. The city of Yper is beautiful and worth visiting. Yper is around 2.5-3hrs drive from Paris, 30mins from the American cemetary in Waregem and 30-40mins from Calais, Dunkirque and the ferry and tunnel to UK.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 September 2023

Impressive museum revealing a lot of details of worldwar 1
Partly with video movies partly with remains.
It is an overload of information, so pick what s of interest.
Visiting the museum won t make you happy, but it will enrich your knowledge.

Some good content to back up the battlefield tours. You can also climb to the top of the tower - very high. Only negative is that they are having extensive restoration work and this is very loud in some of the main exhibitions ( hammer and drills noise )

We live at the coast, and are often in Ieper with friends for the last post, but had never visited the Flanders Fields museum, and thought we should rectify that. We were so disappointed. Firstly it was full of school children, doing their research, so was very noisy and very crowded. All credit to the kids, who were listening at all the points and writing away on their clipboards.
The first film on the broken board, we couldn't really see anything on that!! Another one we sat and started to listen to, but it wasn't loud enough, and then we also got swamped by kids and decided to give up on that too.
Those very high cabinets that hurt your neck looking up, whoever thought of doing that?
We found the layout awful, nothing drew our attention. We both found it totally boring and a waste of money. Probably the worst wat museum I have been in and I have been in quite a few. My DAd and my Grandad both fought in Belgium, My Grandad in the first world war and my Dad in the second, so I really do have an interest in what they went through. I think I listened to three things on the audio, and heard nothing of interest, so gave up on that too. I had also expected a much larger exhibition, and just that it would be interesting, but it wasn't.
Well, now we know. Thanks but no thanks.
