Full scale reconstructions of war scenes, an extended collection of weapons, war equipment and photos make this museum to a true must-see!The chapel, in which the museum is located, dates back from the early twenties. This chapel was built directly across the Hooge Crater cemetery in memory of the many fallen soldiers on the battle fields of ‘Hooge’ over a period of 4 years. Rare military clothing of the troops, that where fighting in the ‘Ypres Salient’ (Ieperboog) are exposed in glass displays. Also you can see some full scale scenes of the Great War battle fields, very authentically reproduced. The theme of the scenes is very divers: German bunkers, British trenches and full scale horses with cavalry troops on their backs.

This is ideal for a quick snack lunch with very friendly and helpful staff and excellent beer! The attached museum is well worth a visit, well presented and quick to get round. As a guide, I think it is cheapskate to keep putting clients into museums when they should be on the ground with me; however this museum is worth... More

A truly amazing museum, they seem to have managed to collect all the WW1 surplus. Best military museum for artefacts I have been to

We stopped for lunch and went and had a walk outside and found ourselves looking around the old crater dating from one of the mine explosions of the Great War. Can be busy and a bit of tension between the hotel and museum. But we liked the way reliques had been left littered about as a reminder of the war

I think it is amazing that this is a personal collection built up over the years. The place is packed with artefacts. The film is interesting. After the slickness and computer generated exhibits of the Flanders Field museum I thought this so refreshing.

We stopped after visiting Polygon Wood and driving back to Ypres. It was a very a very good stop the entry fee including a drink and a very substantial sandwich was around 13 Euro. After eating we toured the attached museum which had a lot of WW1 artifacts that were very interesting. Well worth a visit.

I use this cafe whenever I bring clients to Ypres. I had arranged with Niek that I would bring 30 people in a coach on 8 October. The service was quick - such an efficient method of handing out tickets for a drink and museum entrance - and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. However, it was the museum that people... More

In an increasingly "Commercialised" battlefield area, it was pleasing to find that the Hooge Crater Museum had not been changed or made more "Trendy" since my previous visit in 2015. The preserved trench and crater area were still in good condition and provided a peaceful and quiet area to allow one to contemplate the violence and tragedy of 100 years... More

Well worth a visit, loads to see and read, strongly suggest you allow at least 2 hours to have half a chance of doing it justice. A short walk (200m's) away are trenches to walk through, for a just entrance is just 1 Euro into an honesty box.
