Full scale reconstructions of war scenes, an extended collection of weapons, war equipment and photos make this museum to a true must-see!The chapel, in which the museum is located, dates back from the early twenties. This chapel was built directly across the Hooge Crater cemetery in memory of the many fallen soldiers on the battle fields of ‘Hooge’ over a period of 4 years. Rare military clothing of the troops, that where fighting in the ‘Ypres Salient’ (Ieperboog) are exposed in glass displays. Also you can see some full scale scenes of the Great War battle fields, very authentically reproduced. The theme of the scenes is very divers: German bunkers, British trenches and full scale horses with cavalry troops on their backs.

Excellent museum with a great owner who assists when your motorcycle has a problem. The dioramas are particularly good and their is a nice restaurant attached.

This is a great learning experience. Terrific amount of WW1 paraphernalia and well identified and labelled. The WW1 songs played in background adds to the atmosphere, and the coffee shop at the end is a nice touch.

We were on a Leger tour and had lunch here a couple of times as well as visiting the museum and recreated trenches. The May weather was beautiful and we had some lovely food and beer in a place that was hell a hundred years ago, Hooge being a name to fill many with dread for good reason, one of... More

So often when it gets round to lunch time while touring the Salient I pop into the Hooge Crater museum and its associated cafe. The museum is arguably the best in the area with good diaromas and hundreds of artefacts to look at which I much prefer to the digitised and computerised 'modern' museums. The cafe always does a nice... More

The museum is full of artefacts and interesting facts from WW1. The film is interesting. We then walked over the road to the cemetery (one of many in the area) and was once again moved by the sacrifice.

Probably the best museum we visited on our trip to Ypres, don't miss this one out. There's also a very nice cafe.

The museum is first class - well worth a visit- lots of interesting exhibits - Hooge Crater itself is a bit of a hike away walking boots required and not readily signposted - ask at the museum if you are unsure.

We visited the Hooge crater museum as part of a trip to ypres, the museum, although on the smaller side is very informative and has lots of items from the first world war. Stood facing the museum to the outside there is a hotel, if you go into here there is then the actual crater and trenches which you can... More

Excellent selection of weapons and memorabilia also handy if you need a snack or a coffee. Easy to park, if not to busy park on the main road rather than around the back.
