Beautifully kept Cemetery for Our Fallen Heroes. Across the road is a private museum and a cafe. Lovely cafe offering lovely food/snacks and beverages. Outside seating area as well as inside. Very pleasant experience. Can be a little busy when coaches appear.

A very peaceful place to visit and to remember the sacrifice made for us. Everything is well maintained and tidy, it's easy to use the cemetery records to find graves.

I have lots of respect for the maintaining of the cemeteries. Perfectly in line. There is a book that informs you about the soldiers lying there. You can find your relatives by alphabetical order in the book.

Beautiful, peaceful, cemetery and memorial for those who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives during WWI in this area. Directly across the street from the Hooge Crater Museum. Easy street parking available.

one thing Beautifully kept, grass mown to perfection, to see the headstones one after the other, makes you think, all these soldiers who died and died in honour, a person must think about them, what they witnessed, but at peace now...

It goes for every cemetery you visit in this area really, the sheer volume of gravestones and the quiet beauty of it all tinged with a high degree of sadness and the futility of it all.
Very moving and equally tragic

Amazing collections of war artefacts. Its also very worth the money to visit This seems like a family run business and they have a wonderful museum. Coffee shop is worth refreshing your thirst and looking at a video..

Another very well maintained cemetery, a last resting place for those who gave their all. I often wonder whether, when they found themselves in the he’ll of battle they could ever guess that their descendants and others would, a hundred years later, still be remembering them and standing where they last stood.

So many soldiers and officers died here, Allies as well as Germans. Everyone wanted the advantage of bring on higher ground or have possession of the castle.
In October, 1914, the 1st and 2nd Divisions were wiped out. Fighting continued against the German attack. Eventually the Germans lost their higher ground, thanks to the 61th Division. The Germans took it again in 1916. However, the 9th Division (The Scottish) and the 29th Division took it over again a few months before the war was over.
The tombs were given by the Belgians. They were so thankful for other countries helping them.
I wish there would be no more wars! After all, it is way better to be united. This place shows the consequences of war. Young men buried, instead of enjoying life.
