Fort Napoleon is really impressive fort built from the french general Napoleon. It has a pentagram shape helping for the protection. If you are interested in history - it is good to visit. I was there last week and what impressed me that now they made it, in the season before Christmas, there is very interesting exhibition for small children.... More

On a beautiful October day we walked from De Haan to Ostend along the beach and Spinoladijk (about 6.2 miles). We met a preserved bunker from the German World War II Atlantic Wall defences and a path leading to “Fort Napoleon”. We climbed the dunes to have a closer look at the impressive pentagonal fortification with its surrounding wall and... More

Fort Napoleon is definitely worth a visit; The fort is renovated in a very nice way with a modern and good) restaurant integrated in the old fortress. The audioguide is interesting as long as the actor playing a French soldier is not speaking, very annoying.

The refurbishment work here is impressive, to turn around a ruined fort, restore it to very good condition, including a modern bar/restaurant, and well made audio visual guide via ipod. The ferry and walk over to the Fort is also very pleasant. Make sure to say hello to friendly French soldier Francois when you're there.

This is the best preserved fort that was build by Napoleon. Although used throughout the ages, there was a Roman fort before on the site, by the military of several countries, it never was invaded or saw military action, and is largely so well preserved because the dunes mostly covered it several times. There is an outer wall and then... More

This place is actually a port that has never been really functioned. It was built around the end of the Napoleon reigning time. Although it has never functioned as the original purpose, this place still worth a visit if you have spare time in Ostend. There is a fee for the entrance of the fort. The fee includes an audio... Really boring audio tour. Lake of any props literally have a 3 min audio of a dude taking about a fireplace. Best part was watching seagulls and birds eat food from plates in the cafe. Save your money and just get two super awesome Belgium beers at the cafe, better value

The fort can be reached by coastal tram from Ostend station in about ten minutes (just two stops). It is nicely situated among some dunes on the edge of a sandy beach. It is a low, squat building not very visible from afar - that was the idea, it was meant to be hidden from approaching sea-borne traffic. The admission... More

Old Napoleonic fort in the dunes on the east bank. Historical importance in the history of Ostend. Visit payable (05/2016 -> € 8, iPod included with explanations) At the site is a very good restaurant with gourmet qualities ( to recommend)
