Stopped here for some culture in a chocolate and food filled long weekend. firstly the entrance fee is a little steep but I guess you expect that as a tourist. Our whole visit was somewhat ruined by a jumped up little steward who told us off for standing too close to a painting! Not sure how you are supposed to... More

This gallery is worth visiting just to see the superb Flemish Primitive paintings in the first few rooms. In particular the paintings by Van Eyck, Roger van der Weyden and Bosch are well worth the relatively limited admission price of 8 Euros. The gallery itself is modern and well laid out and has a calm and relaxed atmosphere. However, although... More

Lovely site with interesting gardens. Easy to find within walking distance of both the Markt and Burg. Gallery itself is full of interesting and classic paintings, taking the visitor through Belgian art history from the 16th century to modern day. Well worth a visit for anyone who likes art.

If you're interested in the Flemish masters, then this is a must-see. If not, it's still a nice gallery to visit.

Very well organised gallery with stunning pictures. Good on every level. This was our third visit. It is a nice size to get around and there are modern facilities here too for every visitor.

If you love Flemish art, you have to go to the Groeningemuseum and see its spectacular Van Eycks, Memlings and more. (The Bosch and the Brueghel were not on display when I visited.) if you would like to love Flemish art, do a little reading before you go. The wall text is very general and will not help you appreciate... More

A small but beautiful museum of Flemish primitive art. The colours are incredibly vibrant with astounding detail and attention to texture and light. Inevitably the focus is on religious art but I don't think you need to be religious to appreciate the work. I went out of season so it was quiet. I think it could get really busy. I'd... More

Nice art gallery showing the history of Belgian art. Not that big. Good for an hour or so. Ideal for those who want to add a bit of culture to a food and beer weekend

The setting is delightful, even before you enter the museum. It represents some lovely old art history, even if it is not all to your own personal taste. There is a good shop attached, and your ticket gives you entry to a second museum next door, the art of Frank Brangwyn.

Interestingly enough, nearby the entrance of the Groeningemuseum was an abstract sculpture all in white. Quite a contrast with the lovely paintings inside the Groeningemuseum. Once inside, I saw numerous beautiful Flemish paintings from the past. They were so beautiful! I didn't know where to look. Beauty was everywhere. Just to make certain I could take pictures I asked a... More
