The 115 metres high brick tower of the Church of Our Lady is a perfect illustration of the craftsmanship of Bruges' artisans. The church displays a valuable art collection: Michelangelo's world-famous Madonna and Child, countless paintings, 13th-century painted sepulchres and the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.

We heard about Bruge from the movie the, Monuments Men. It intrigued so much that we decided to go there. It was worth it. Even though it didn't show Bruge in the movie the Madonna was worth going for. We are so glad we went because we fell in love with Bruge. The only bad thing was none of the... More

Quite by chance I happened across a reference to a Michaelangelo Madonna and Child carving located in Brugge, and although my wife tends to think of me as Ye Compleat Peasant when it comes to culture and art, I thought it would be interesting to go see it. After all, we'd already walked past the church (tallest in Brugge) a... More

This is yet another gorgeous and opulent Catholic church. I came to see the northern most Michelangelo sculpture and was surprised that you had to pay a separate admission to see it. The wealth and glamour of the church is always slightly disturbing to me when there is so much suffering the world.

Free to access, and in a church that its under constant renovation, this building its famous for holding one of Michelangelo's masterpieces, the famous Madonna and Child statue of the 1500's. Having the privilege of seeing such a piece its unique and its another part of Belgium heritage that was recover from the Nazi's. A true gem.

When we arrived there were renovations/refurbishments taking place within the church. We walked around the common area and could not see the piece, and then realised there was a side section you had to pay to get into. It only cost a couple of euro and at the end of the section is the Michelangelo sculpture! It isn't the largest... More

The michaelangelo maddonna and child is breathtaking, it sits amongst inferior statuary that only helps to emphasise michaelangelo's genius. In the part of the church which is free of charge to enter, the carved pulpit is an extraordinary piece of seemingly impossible design, it's main section appearing to balance on the head of a figure whilst the canopy appears borne... Just as one will not be disappointed with a pilgrimage to the San Bavo Cathedral in Ghent to see the Adoration of the Lamb by Van Eyk, seeing the Bruge Madonna by Michelangelo is also a very special experience. This area of the church is separated from the rest, so be sure to get there during the limited opening hours.... More

Rather dark and very crowded with tour parties, you have to pay extra to enter the part with the Michelangelo statue which is smaller than I expected but worth seeing.

We went there to see the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and her father plus a Micelangelo statue. We only saw the statue and part of the church. The rest is being renovated which I a, sure it needs. Tickets are half price.

We went there late May and only a small area was open. The main church is closed off completely and the Madonna by Michelangelo is not available for viewing now. Not sure when it will re-open but hopefully others will post a note here in future when it does. I rated it as 2 stars because the part that *is*... More
