Whilst it is called a Church it has the atmosphere and grandeur of a Cathedral. .The doors were reopened in 2020 following a major refurbishment,I was a little concerned at first on how white the stonework is, not sure if it has been cleaned or painted. It is so clean and bright as it may have been when it was built. The carved wooded pulpit is impressive, never seen anything like it for size and such detailed carving.A beautiful place to sit and think

We went inside to see the Church although without a tablet with explanations. It has a very beautiful wooden pulpit like other churches in the area, a beautiful monstrance and lots of light although most of its stained glass windows do not have images like in the Brussels Cathedral. It's worth seeing. From the outside it rivals the beautiful town hall that is next to it.

Impressive monumental structure. The construction of this church was started in the fifteenth century; built in the Gothic style. Until the seventeenth century the church was built; the structure was never completed; see the unfinished towers. Striking is the very bright interior and the particularly beautiful windows. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a fairly standard gothic church but it works well and the art work is something to see. The information provided promises completion by Sept 2019, but there still seems to be lots to do. However, the panels on display are very much worth seeing.

Terrific place if you're interested in medieval art, with Dirk Bouts' 'Last supper' as an ultimate masterpiece. The building itself is also very beautiful. Access to the church is free.

Stunning exterior to this wonderful Church. The interior behind the altar is under renovation at present and is blocked off. The most impressive part of this Church is the ornate wooden pulput which is a work of art.

The architecture of the Church is unique with sharp and fine structures at every point and converges them, all at the top / roof. It stands testimony to the architecture skills prevalent at that time. The stained glass windows, if observed, could show many of the glass panes are just plain white. Its because, they have been bombed and broken. But as the time passed, volunteers have redone the broken ones with plain glasses.
Inside there's also a huge wooden artifact depicting infant Jesus, a huge one standing in the middle of the prayer hall. It also has many historical paintings adorning the walls.
Surprisingly, the church is still active and services are available. Infact, when we visited, there was a Baptisation ceremony in progress.

The beauty of this church is that most of the art was stolen in the Second World War but now you can go in and is free. Amazing painters and sculptures. They are renovating it but is worth going in.

The interior is being restored so it cannot be fully appreciated. We went to Sunday mass and the organ playing filled the huge interior with music to make it a most memorable occasion.

I lived in Leuven for over a year, and despite not being religious, Sint-Pieterskerk was one of my favorite places to go for a quiet moment. I find it to be a very unique church as most of the stone work is white and all the windows are wavy-clear glass, so it always very well-lit in the daytime, unlike many of the churches with light-impeding stained glass (though gorgeous in its own right, of course!). You can pay a few € to go through the back which is a bit of a museum with a few very nice paintings and you can go see the crypt. If you're interested, it's worth it - but I find the church itself the thing to see, so just enter from the bustling streets of the Grote Mark and Bondganotenlaan and enjoy the serenity!
