This was recommended by a local friend so we went and found various items for sale, sort of a flea market. Practical for shopping. On a big square with lots of places to eat and drink around.

Ghent Friday Market is just another ordinary market, nothing special. You can get cheap clothing and some food.

Good for food and small knick-knacks (think cheap underwear and iPhone cases, rather than fancy jewellery or souvenirs). In terms of food, there are groceries to cook (cheese, fish, meat, bread, deli and vegetables) as well as some snack stalls. This is more of a 'working' market for people who live here, rather than a 'show' market for tourists. I like this, but wouldn't be great if you were expecting the latter! Great location for going for a coffee/drink nearby too!

Busy but average food and clothing market. Poor quality cheap clothing. Some of the food and fish trucks did look very good and were crowded with customers. Its worth a diversion from the tourist market closer to the river, if you happen to be in Ghent (Gent) on a Friday.

I hit this market at least once a year and rarely leave without a treasure. It is rather small and I would go Friday as Saturday and Sunday are smaller. Prices are much less than US prices for similar goods. Last year I found a 19th century reliquary for €30 Euros! Most finds are not that fortuitous but I would still recommend.

We arrived at this Market just as it was closing down! We had been wandering around the streets of the city for several hours and then, quite by chance, we stumbled across the Friday Market at this beautiful square. This is a great idea which takes place in many European cities. The locals obviously are the ones who really benefit. As for tourists, well, they just walk around taking photos (as we did...) and invariably getting in the way of the real shoppers! Nevertheless it was a lot of fun, for us as tourists, anyway!

the lovely town of Ghent brings everyone together at their Friday market to enjoy fresh produce, seafood, and meats as well as collectibles, art, and gift items. We loved it!

I wasn't aware this market is crowdy with locals. The vegetables and fruit are great and I all the terraces were full booked around the place. The gave even discounts at the end around 12:00 for friendly people, I suppose....

We came to see the Christmas market. Quite a lot of stalls, many locals trying the gleufein and lo al food. Nice friendly stallholders, lots of different items to buy. Would really recommend this.
