After doing all the main tourist bits in the centre, a short walk led to this castle. A nice end of day place to visit. It has a macabre but fascinating museum of medieval torture which is worth a visit on its own. This attraction...More

The self guided tour is very eye opening and not too taxing, though if someone has mobility issues I wouldn’t recommend it due to the usual issues with walking through castles. Lots of examples of weaponry and armour on display and some other aspects dedicated...More

It was just a little bit soul less. Most rooms are empty. There are some cases with items in, which you can get an information sheet for, however it was all a little boring. It is beautiful from the outside, not sure if it is...More

Great castle for the kids to wonder around and superb views from the top across Ghent. The castle has been superbly restored. There are interesting medieval torture instruments on show. It doesn’t take long to walk around and kids under 12 are free. Worth a...More

Gravensteen was on our list of “must-see” places in Ghent and it did not disappoint. I particularly enjoyed the weapons room, though relatively small in comparison to military museums, had an excellent collection.

The Gravensteen Castle makes you feel like you're back in the Medieval Days. It's also a museum of torture - and while that sounds disturbing - it's actually quite interesting. Once you purchase a ticket, it's a self guided tour that is clearly marked with...More

Not suited to anyone with mobility issues, but lots of stairs and ramparts to scramble and walk around, good internal exhibitions. Let down by no cafe or place to sit inside when it's cold or raining. Fabulous views over the city all round. A good...More

It's a must see place in Gent. This place has great history and also the view of the city looks amazing from there. I didn't regret checking it out. If you love taking pictures then it's great spot as well!

The Self guided tour was rather nice. Most of the exhibit are of weaponry and torture devices. Rather graphic but interesting. Spectacular views of Ghent from the top of castle. Definately worth a visit

Big Castle located in the middle of the city next to a river. Impressive. Well organized for tourists. A must see.
