The beguinage is still under renovation and conversion to modern living standards, but part of the houses have already been very nicely renovated and are being used again. People do live here, so it is not a museum, but it has a very nice atmosphere,...More

Like many people I am fascinated by the Beguines, and I love that so many Beguinages still exist. Sadly, no one in Belgium seems inclined to inform outsiders of what these places were, and are, and will be in the future. There are no signs...More

This is just behind the lovely Hotel Hancelot and quite out if the way. It's beautiful. Quite and delightful with a few explanatory signs. Well worth a look.

This was a history lesson on something I was totally unaware of. It was very interesting to stroll through the grounds and see how these women lived. Definitely something worth doing a bit of research on before visiting, There were no guides so you need...More

Unfortunately the church was closed when I went there so I only got to see it from the outside. Also it was pouring with rain at this time so I didn't see it at the best of times. It looks a bit old and dated...More

I always thought this was a kind of a secret location, only known to a select bunch of people. But for those who like the atmosphere of the old flemish beguinages, and don't like the crowded Bruges beguinage, this is a nice alternative. Mind you,...More

One approaches the convent from the north to find on the left an odd long walled building of indeterminate age along the road. Eventually one finds an unassuming entrance with a notice board of rules and regs. As one proceeds deeper an expensive interpretive notice...More
