About
De Dulle Griet is a time-worn old-school pub, with a wonderful old Flemish interior. The selection of beers is impressive too, with more than 400 different special beers, both local & international. De Dulle Griet has the biggest choice in terms of beers in Ghent!

- StuartWest Wickham, United Kingdom44 contributionsGreat Belgium BeersWe tried to go this place one evening but it was extremely busy and no tables. So we went one afternoon and wasn't disappointed. Such a choice of Belgian beers. It was one of those places where you could sit all afternoon and drink the night away but fortunately or unfortunately depending how you look at it were closing early. Recommend this place but if you are going on the weekend recommend you get there earlyish if you want a seatVisited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 January 2023
- SASUE4 contributionsCheers! We always think of Dulle Griet as a highlight of our trip to Ghent last year. It’s where we tried Westvleteren for the first time and the only place we visited twice during our travels. Great bartenders, amazing selection of beer, and fun atmosphere.Visited October 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 July 2023
- summerbumGeneva, Illinois1,394 contributionsUnique and funIt's gone a bit touristy, but where else can you say that you deposited your shoe, watched it being pulled up to the ceiling in a basket, then hobbled to the restroom one-shoed while everyone cheered you? In addition, this bar has a really quirky vibe, and extensive beer list with some rare beers that are considered some of the world's best. It faces a lovely square and is a great place to while away the evening and chat and laugh with fellow travelers.Visited July 2023Written 3 August 2023
- Frida BravoStockholm, Sweden986 contributionsFamous beerYou have probably seen videos of this bar on social media, and we had to try the famous shoe-beer when you must leave your shoe to order the beer because so many stole the beer-glass. Fun thing, good beer. Feels real old school inside of the bar.Visited June 2023Written 8 August 2023
- Mmerola22393 contributionsDelicious beer!I must first say I am more of a wine person, but had to stop by this place as one of their rules is you have to give up a shoe to have their house beer, the Max. While I didn’t taste the Max, with 500 options of beer to choose from, it was quite easy for me to find one I liked. The atmosphere is fantastic, but the stairs to the WC are treacherous. Nonetheless, I will be back and would recommend this place to anyone coming to Ghent!Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 September 2023

Waited for over 20 minutes and no one approached us to serve us . They dud serve people who arrived after us. Lots of people just popping in the door to take a photo. It's a tourist trap.

A wonderfully bizarre, touristyyet comfy flemish pub in Central Ghent boasting over 500 Belgian beers and of course the yard glass of beer where one deposits a shoe which is put in a basket and hoisted up to the ceiling.
The yard beers themselves cost €14 each and are pretty strong but an entertaining way to pass an hour or so.

Entering the very strange interior of De Dulle Griet where they still take a shoe from you as deposit if your drink comes in a stirrup glass. No, they really do.

Fabulous. We did the Kwak challenge, glad to say I got my shoe back. What an amazing atmosphere; weird, wonderful and quirky decor which made my day. Did not trip too much on the cobblestones on the way out.
I loved it when they raised the 'shoe basket' and everyone who was sitting outside stood up to peer inside to see who was taking the challenge.
As South African's...we loved it. In fact am now fanatical about Belgium Beers. If it isn't Belgium, I dont drink it. See you in December 2023

A bar on the attractive Vrijdagmarkt which boasts 500 different Belgian beers (I didn't try them all!). The staff know their beer, and are friendly and efficient. A good atmosphere for all ages
