We tried to go this place one evening but it was extremely busy and no tables. So we went one afternoon and wasn't disappointed. Such a choice of Belgian beers. It was one of those places where you could sit all afternoon and drink the night away but fortunately or unfortunately depending how you look at it were closing early. Recommend this place but if you are going on the weekend recommend you get there earlyish if you want a seat

We always think of Dulle Griet as a highlight of our trip to Ghent last year. It’s where we tried Westvleteren for the first time and the only place we visited twice during our travels. Great bartenders, amazing selection of beer, and fun atmosphere.

It's gone a bit touristy, but where else can you say that you deposited your shoe, watched it being pulled up to the ceiling in a basket, then hobbled to the restroom one-shoed while everyone cheered you? In addition, this bar has a really quirky vibe, and extensive beer list with some rare beers that are considered some of the world's best. It faces a lovely square and is a great place to while away the evening and chat and laugh with fellow travelers.

You have probably seen videos of this bar on social media, and we had to try the famous shoe-beer when you must leave your shoe to order the beer because so many stole the beer-glass. Fun thing, good beer. Feels real old school inside of the bar.

I must first say I am more of a wine person, but had to stop by this place as one of their rules is you have to give up a shoe to have their house beer, the Max. While I didn’t taste the Max, with 500 options of beer to choose from, it was quite easy for me to find one I liked. The atmosphere is fantastic, but the stairs to the WC are treacherous. Nonetheless, I will be back and would recommend this place to anyone coming to Ghent!
