About
It was between 1818, and 1821, during the Dutch occupation, that the citadel was built in its current form. Throughout the kitchen, the bakery and the forge, you will discover the daily life of 400 soldiers that were living there. Don't forget to visite our new space 1914-1918, explaining all the fights that took place in dinant during the first world war.

    Good, but visit in combination
Visit was good. Not amazing. The view was the best part and spectacular at that! Enjoyed the combination ticket with the boat cruise (will review separately because it was wonderful). Didn’t get much of a feel for why the citadel was built originally. Layout of displays was confusing. The WWII history was solid, however, and also thought the reconstitution of trenches was a great touch. Unsure why they were asking €0.50 for the restroom? No problem with paying for a public restroom, but we already paid to get in, no? Bizarre. Definitely visit if in Dinant, but do the combination. It’s not that much on its own.

    Could be so much better!
This is a true heirloom of the past. Yet, the setup of the Citadelle lacks true passion for its history. It could be so much much better if a couple of historians would put some true effort in. Now, for amateur historians it’s just meh and pretty disappointing.

    Interesting fortress with cable car
Surprisingly good museum in a Vauban style fortress. The 1914 trench expererience is truly disorientating and very realistic. Ticket price includes the cable car down to the town and bcck unless you want to climb the 409 steps!

    A must see for Dinant
If you come to Dinant you can't miss the citadel and so makes sense to see. The good news is that it's well priced and so a must see. The twin ticket offer is a bit of a bargain combining the citadel, including cable car, and a 45min boat trip. Doing both gives you an amazing view of this picturesque town and understanding of its history.

    Fascinating History
Very interesting citadel outlining the history of Dinant, with a real focus on WW1. There is plenty to see and read as well as beautiful views across the area. One of the highlights was definitely the WW1 trenches which were quite disorienting but gave you a real experience of what it would have been like. We bought the combi ticket with the cable car and boat, although we did walk away the 408 steps. Overall would really recommend as a must see for anyone visiting Dinant.

    go for the views
don't miss this on your visit to dinant! even if all you do is get the cable car up for the views, you will have a great time. in the middle of summer we only had to wait maybe 20 minutes to get on the cable car upwards, and less than 5 to get it back down. lots do see and do here, we only spent around an hour going in and out of the buildings but the views alone were excellent.

    Quaint little town
Absolutely stunning town to visit. Really cool Architecture. Did not know that the inventor of the Saxaphone was from here. After visiting you definitely know. There are reminders throughout the town. Huge six + foot saxophones line a bridge and represent different countries on their designs. really cool quaint little town,

A little expensive for what it is - a very short cable car ride to a very nice viewpoint. Area is well kept and the cable car wait time is short.

Wonderful views over the city and river. A long line to buy tickets for both the funicular and for taking the stairs. The nicest thing to do in Dinant
