Interesting fountain of Charles Buls or Karel Buls (13 October 1837–13 July 1914). He was a Belgian politician and former mayor of the City of Brussels. Buls entered politics in 1870 as a Flemish candidate on a radical list, but he was not elected till 1877 when he was elected to the Brussels city council on a liberal list. He became schepen or échevin of education in 1879. Buls was a supporter of progressive causes, especially in language issues and education, and the education of women, on which he wrote frequently. He was a supporter of Isabelle Gatti de Gamond's educational reforms. From 1879 on he played an important role in the development of Flemish education in Brussels.

I had no idea who Charles Karel Buls was before visiting Brussels but I was pleased to see there is a monument to him in the city centre. I like that he is sat on the edge of the fountain just chilling out, contemplating.

The Charles Buls Fountain and statue is located in the centre of Agoraplein and is an interesting monument to view if passing through the area. This is the work of Belgian sculptor Henri Lenaerts (1999) and is a depiction of and elderly Mayor Buls resting at the fountain with a book in hand while he pets a small dog. It is an endearing monument to the enlightened politician from the late 19th-century.

Located on Place Agora is Charles Karel Buls Fountain,a very good statue to a great man.
Charles Karel Buls ( 1837-1914 ) was a politician and mayor of Brussels ,during his tenor in office he was responsible for the saving of many great buildings throughout Brussels ,it sounds ludicrous as you visit the great tourist sites such as Grand Place and Mont Des Arts but King Leopold II actually wanted these places demolished ,through the efforts of Charles Karel Buls these amazing structures were saved for our enjoyment ,the fountain and statue looks superb, shows the great man in relaxed mood ,a dog by his side ,it's cool ,it's most definitely well worth checking out if you're near Place Agora along Rue Du Marche Aux Herbes.

This fountain, located not far from the Grand Place looked somehow neglected and dirty, for a fountain in the center of town.

This picturesqe fountain and statue depicts former the city Mayor and hs dog and is today the centrepiece of a pretty little square with a small market and various shops and restaurants. I walked through here a multitude of times throughout most days on my way around the city and it makes a decent resting spot with benches to sit on to perhaps enjoy a drink and get your bearings from.

This statue cum fountain is a tribute to an ex politician and Mayor of the city who passed away >100 years ago. The statue is a larger than life size of himself and his dog. A good photo stop near Grand Place.

In exploring central beautiful Brussels, I can certainly say you are most probably going to pass through the Agora Square. I passed and crossed it several times in one day. Peaceful and unassuming fountain. Nice and tranquil.

Located in pride of place within Place de l'Agora, sits a larger than life size, statue of Charles Buls and his dog, sitting on the side of the fountain. Definitely worth a glance whilst cruising the streets.
