Welcome to the shopping street. You find the same brands there as in all the shopping streets in Europe, so of no interest when you want to visit Brussels. Without forgetting the array of pickpockets and fake beggars who come to spice up our lives. Sad development of overconsumption.

I found this street very pleasant. Quite long and lined with shops and restaurants on either side. Public transit. Very busy and it looks like a good place to live. Definitely upscale.

As happens more ofen on Tripadvisor several contributors have used the ‘Rue Neuve’ entry as a general dumping ground for comments and pictures relating to squares, streets, restaurants and cafés located elsewhere in the neighbourhood or even further away. We guess not even half of the posted pictures show rue Neuve. We recognised Grand Place, Place de la Monnaie, Place des Martyrs, les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, rue de l’Etuve, rue des Princes, rue des Fripiers, rue Grétry, rue du Marché aux Fromages and rue du Marché aux Herbes and even the Palais du Midi at boulevard Maurice Lemonnier.
Due to this misrepresentation, the pedestrianised shopping street ‘rue Neuve’ may seem rather more attractive to tourists than it really is. We find it overly busy, dirty and ugly and avoid it. The street is lined with the usual retail outlets.

There are 2 main shopping areas in Brussels that you need to be aware of - Rue de Neuve and Avenue Louise.
In summary Rue de Neuve is best described as mainstream and is more central to the city centre whereas Avenue Louise is more upmarket and trendy and situated away from the true city centre in the Ixelles commune of Brussels.
Brussels is eclipsed in shopping terms by London, Paris and even Antwerp but on Rue Neuve you will find your stock of European high street names as well as a large shopping mall with department store.

If you want to enjoy some nice shopping, I would advise you to visit the Avenue Louise Area instead.
Rue nueve is really crowded and has little special to offer compared to Avenue Louise. It is quite close to the grande place though.
For people who have visited the Ramblas in Barcelona or the Galeries La Fayette in Paris, Rue Nueve will certainly disappoint.
They do have a very big galeria Inno which is worth visiting (5 stories high).
The shopping area itself has more of the same to offer; 2x H&M, 2x Mango, Zara etc.
For the fashion lovers, go to Louise.

The shops are not special as they belong to the chains you find everywhere in the world (C&A, Zara, Primark, H&M, Mediamarkt, Rituals, Mc Donalds,....). The pavement itself is in very bad shape and reminded me of Florida Street in Buenos Aires (also horrible). People really need to watch out here not to break their foot. On top of that, and what makes the shopping experience highly unpleasant, is the dozens of homeless people lying in the street. Several parts of the street also heavily smell urine and I also saw human feces. Garbage is lying all over the street as the public bins are overload. Also several (illegal) street vendors occupy parts of the street and you have to zig zag in between them and watch out not to step on their goods/rubbish. The authorities here don't seem to bother. There are much better places in Brussels and in Belgium to shop. I felt in a third world country here. I would be embarrassed if I would be the mayor here (and fix this mess).

This is quite a long street that goes from near Place Rogier to almost to the Grand Place! For the shopping enthusiast this has everything you could want. You must try the hot Guafres for sale at the windows (similar to a waffle) and the fresh fruit stand in front of the church. Health food people will live the Kiki restaurant by there too. There is a good restaurant on the top floor of the INNO store where the locals eat and you pay a lot less than in a local restaurant. Go in some of the mini malls off the side and browse through old used BD's (cartoon books) in several languages. There is a poster shop that has amazing work. I always allow a whole day of browsing and end up at Drug Opera for one of their amazing ice creams (Rue des Fripiers 32, 1000 Brussels). Their food is like art and it is at the Grand Place end. Enjoy your day and you will never forget. Even enjoy the music of the street musicians! Some are really good! You must also try the Leonidas chocolates which the locals eat. There are other brands but quality and price nothing beats Leonidas. You can mix or buy just one type. You pay for what you taste and you can buy from one piece to several kilos! I get a minimum of 6 kg each time I come to Brussels every year! This is a street for browsing, shopping, fun and just watching the people. Sales are real sales and you can get some great bargains! Enjoy.

Rue Neuve is a busy and bustling shopping street in Brussels that's a must go destination if you're into your retail therapy but to me it's boring, not much of interest along this street ,lots of shops obviously, architecture a bit lame ,the only point of interest to me along this street is Place Du Martyrs and Eglise Nostra Dame Du Finistere that are reached along this street plus my favourite pub in Brussels is along this street namely La Corbeau ,other than these three destinations I wouldn't entertain going down this street.

This is a pedestrian shopping street with lots of shops and suitable for the masses. The buildings here are pretty nice too. Worth a visit.

Bonjour Claire,

Chema
