Overview
More
From the middle ages, a castle overlooked Brussels from Coudenberg hill. From the 12th century, the successive monarchs and their representatives transformed a small fortified castle into a sumptuous residential palace, one of the most beautiful palace of Europe and one of Charles V's main residences. This prestigious building is severely damaged by fire in 1731. Some forty years later, the ruins of the palace are pulled down and the ground flattened out for the construction of the new royal district. The remains of this palace make up the Coudenberg archaeological site.

Not the easiest museum to find in Brussels, but worth the search. This underground exploration of the early life of the capital is a fascinating look back in history. From old buildings to cobble streets, it's well worth the trip.

One of our group of 6 suggested this museum, and it was very interesting and well organized. You just had to connect your phone to the inhouse WiFi system to get a complete description of what you were seeing. While we there they had a...More

The palace is beautiful. The tunnel system is ok — not much to see really. Museum was limited. Worth 10 euro? I guess, but kinda steep for what’s in there.

The other half of the Belvue museum! Pretty quiet and colder inside than out, but a good WiFi enabled audio-guide system gives you the ability to learn all about the palace. Fascinating to imagine in "above ground" as used to be the case.

I really enjoyed visiting Coudenberg, it's very interesting to see what the city streets and buildings looked like in the past and how this has evolved throughout the centuries. You may want to get the ticket for the museum located in the same building, which...More

We visited this attraction on a Saturday and there were very few visitors. It cost just 5 euros each for me and my partner, as there is a discount for those under 25. I enjoyed this experience; it was very interesting to walk around the...More

I'm usually a speed tourist, this could be the longest I've ever spent at a historical site. Self guided tour via phone app was really good

What you'll see are the remains of the old palace, today under the street. I downloaded the free audio guide, free Wi-Fi is also provided. The audio guide was interesting, maybe a bit long at some points. All you see are mainly tunnels and passages,...More
