It's a very beautiful house near a church. There is garden with medicinal plants and several rooms where Erasmus lived during his stay in Belgium. I strongly advise you to take a guided tour, unless your are familiar with Erasmus' life and books. The guides...More

A lovely day out in Anderlecht -- an hour or so at Erasmus' house, time in the lovely garden (well-labeled herbs, interesting "philosophical garden" with quotes, pools, plants and trees; wonderful objets and furniture in a 16C house. Ticket includes the Beguinage, 200m away beside...More

We wanted to visit something smaller and quieter outside of the city center, so we took the tram to Saint-Guidon to see Maison d’ Erasme (Erasmus House). Once in the neighborhood, the house was actually somewhat difficult to find! However, we persevered and (with the...More

This is a real treat. It was fascinating seeing the house and beautiful garden. The collection of antique books was extraordinary. If you take 81 tram to St. Guidon, it is fairly easy to find.

We took the 81 tram to Anderlecht's St. Guidon stop, a busy square with plenty of eating places. It was European Heritage Day (Journée du Patrimoine), and we found that there were several places all around the square. Erasmus, the Renaissance thinker who inspired the...More

I found this small museum eventually, it being surprisingly difficult to find even though it's only 5 minutes from the Metro. For some reason, very few locals seemed to have heard of it. I also got the impression upon arrival that the museum was closed,...More

The metro line 5, stop Saint-Guidon brings you fast to Anderlecht from the center of Brussels. When you leave the metro and go in direction of the church, you will be positively surprised. The busy center of Brussels seems far away. Here you find a...More

The Erasmus house is in a historical surrounding and the incredibly cheap ticket gives you also access to the beguinase a few hundred meters away. The collection of books, paintings and furniture in a historical building allows a nice, quick visit. The garden in two...More

Anderlecht ... everybody things about football, but there's a great museum to visit really nearby the soccer field. A 16th century building, now housing the only museum in the world dedicated to the 16th century philosopher Desiderius Erasmus.
