Steep climb

227 steps, but the incredibly steep angle makes this a tough climb for those of us who are not as fit as we should be. Good panoramic view of the battlefield from the top.

The acces by car is easy, there is the parking near the entrance. You can buy the tickets and souvenirs there in small shop and climb to the not so high hill. You can feel there the battle atmosphere in the quiet piece of the Belgium - mainly in the panoramic hall. Nice to see, mainly because the historical reasons.

If you have an interest in the Napoleonic era, this is a must see, especially the monolithic-like museum. It's very enlightening, learning about the various forces at play during this war, as well as how war was conducted. Entry fee to the museum has two price tiers, but I can't remember what's included in each. I do recall purchasing the... More

Despite the overcast, we had a very enjoyable visit to the Lion Mound. The stairs are fully manageable and the view superb. The newly renovated museum and visitor center was worth the price and the 3-D video reenactment of the battle was terrific. It's amusing to think that there were virtually no local visitors at the site - until we... More

A family trip to Belgium, we decided on taking a drive out to Waterloo from Brussels. The Centre had been recently opened with a new audio visual / 3D display. The whole experience was amazing and needs at least two/three hours to get the full impression. Though expensive to go in as they do not offer a family ticket, yet... More

Well, actually you should perhaps still go, but don't expect ANY comfort and watch your steps. This 'Lion Monument' was actually erected here by the Prince of Orange, one of the victors over Napoleon, when Holland reigned its short reign in Belgium. Though very impressive as a monument and as a site as well (the site of the battle of... More

The mound was created between 1824-1826 to honor those who died on the day of the battle of Waterloo. There are 226 steps up to view the massive cast iron lion.

This is a great flea market with a little bit of everything from antiques and retro items to junk and just the plain bizarre. It is so much fun to wander and poke around since you never know what you will find. Parking is a free for all but go with patience and it is a great way to spend... More

Very emotional place if you msnage to "travel" back in time. During my visit (jan 2015) there are running plenty of construction work but still for me it was valuable experience. Imagine what it be when celebrating the 200 years anniversary later this year. Climb the stairs you will not regret it
