This is a good place to spend an hour but could be longer if you understand Flemish. The price however is quite expensive for one hour experience in a foreign language.

They claim to be Europe's biggest toy museum, which may well be true - there are 3 stories of displays, the coloured signs directing you around the museum are (like all signposting in Belgium) more confusing than helpful, but you'll soon find what you're interested in, from dolls to construction sets. The descriptions in the display cases are almost exclusively in Flemish, even the printed guides in French are rather useless - the numbers they give for each display case are not shown on the cases themselves. Children will love it regardless, adults like me can wallow in the toys of our youth. They would have got 4 stars from me if they'd had English and/or French descriptions.

this interesting and long existing toy museum is a must see to learn about the history of toys in the 20th and 19th century, but also Lego and other toys are displayed and explained. there is a tea room and access is ok, but no parking. the area is busy to get to and the building is rather unattractive. It deserves better.

This place is for all ages. A complete history of toys. There is so much to experience and learn. One of the coolest places I've been, and I have been all over the world! Note: the entrance before the museum is very dusty and damp smelling. Inside the museum, after you pay, is not.

This museum has a large collection of toys. Some are real treasures and very old. Some a relatively new. All in all the museum leaves a bit of an oldfashioned impression and could use a good cleanup. Don't count on eating/drinking inside.

The toy museum is very easy to reach by car and/or public transport. Younger kids will love it. Since i was addicted to barbie dolls when i was young, i especially appreciated their huge collection of barbies and accesories.

There is a noisy cafetaria where you van have a drink while your children play.

The toy museum also hosts many temporary exhibition's. Last time i was there it was Lego, and i believe now it is Knex.

The whole museum could use some renovation, it feels a little outdated.

I visited this museum a long time ago and compared to that visit the museum had come a long way.
But to today standards the museum is again overdue.
First of all. It's a nice place for people to take a trip here to memorie lane. You see things form your own childhood and it's nice to talk about it with your own children.
Also for young children they can play a little. Although it's not that much. Bit they amuse themself. So again. Good !
Butt it's not a play yard but a museum so you have to see it in this light and then it's time to upgrade.
First of all. Change the lightning. Start to use led lights. All is aluminated in a dark yellow light witch with certain dolls even becomes scary. And don't let you see the detailing of it.
Second, papers with text is not of this age anymore... there is so much to tell you can easily use headphones, an app on your phone or a card system like they use at Bokrijk.
The museum had a lot to go for but it's in desperate need of an upgrade.
Ps. In the cafeteria, try to offer some old fashioned drinks and candy. It will at to the feeling.

I expected a museum similar to the toy museum in Oosterhout (NL), which I liked a lot. But this collection was far broader, and it more fully covered the history of toys and games. Especially the collection of doll houses is elaborate and presented according to historical progress. Many more modern games such as Barbie and the technical toys of Meccano and Lego are presented in smaller sections. There are elaborate railways, stuffed animals, a bit of Playmobil. There is a small section of music instruments for children, and early optical instruments such as zootropes, which one can also find in movie museums (e.g. in Mülheim or EYE in Amsterdam). One section displays small old toys from about the 16th to 19th centuries, including old skates. And the first part of the museum shows some examples of the oldest toys from Egyptians, Romans, and medieval times. There's a section about circus and carnival. The top floor is mostly devoted to toys made in other parts of the worls, such as Africa and the Philippines. With boats made from tin cans, for example, or music instruments. The information provided is very good, things are presented well organized. I think information is often only provided in Dutch, although at other places it was also presented in French and German or English. I would count on 1.5-2 hours in the museum.
