Groenplaats (Groen square) located in historic part of Antwerp and in the middle of many interesting sights. Here you can find a handy Metro stop, bear left up a narrow street of restaurants known as "Little Italy Lane", McDonald's, a statue of Rubens and the main cathedral spire hovering just beyond square. The high-fashion district is to your left, and the Old Town is beyond the cathedral. To be honest, the square itself did not present any interest or beauty to me, just a place on a bench for a short break.

This is a large square in downtown Antwerp. Overshadowed by the picturesque Grote Markt, Groenplaats has way fewer tourists. It is more for practical use as the tram terminus is nearby. For more adventurous travelers, the view from here is not bad all.

Groenplaats is a centrally located public square near Antwerp Cathedral where you find much open space, trees and park benches as well as a centre statue of Pieter Paul Reubens. The square is lined with restaurants, bars and the historic Grand Bazaar which is now the Hilton Hotel.
Trams stop at the south of Groenplaats making it a convenient drop off/pick up point for those Antwerp Central Station to the city centre. Otherwise, tourists are almost certainly going to walk through Groenplaats at some point while sightseeing in the area.

This rectangular square called Green square was once a cemetery linked with the nearby cathedral of our lady. For this reason it is not surrounded by 17th century housing.
It has always been a lively square due to its central location. I remember the square because it often was a point where demonstrations would start or end in the 1970s. Easily accessible with public transportation, because of the metro station and bus lines that meet up here. There are bicycles for rent and there are trees!
Don't forget to have a look at the statue of Rubens.

This is a large square, overlooking the nearby cathedral, which dominates all its area due to its sheer size.

This is close to the cathedral and main shopping street but offers a different experience to the visitor. There are a good range of bars, cafes and independent fast food restaurants on two sides and views of the Cathedral can be enjoyed. Large examples of public art are on display here a more formal historical figure and a more modern giant pig sculpture were just two we saw. The Antwerp mini train begins and ends it’s tour here too.
