Another place in Antwerp which is well worth a visit. There is also a stop for the sightseeing bus nearby - jump on and off where you like.

Amazing little castle looking directly at the water. Nicer than its "twin" in Gand, it is impressive both in daytime and in nighttime (when it is less crowded). Very interesting and unique.

I have walked to/by the Steen Caste several times and it always reminds me of tales I read as a child! The caste itself is a small one but it is surrounded by lush green trees and the Scheldt flowing on one side. As you walk down the Steenplein, enjoy the view and take some time to sit down and... A medieval castle right at the edge of the city centre and the quayside of the Scheldt river. This castle was first used as a prison between 1303 and 1827 and in 1890 Het Steen became the museum of archeology. In 1952 an annex was added to house the museum of Antwerp maritime history, which in 2011 moved to the... More

Really nice castle to look at from the outside and beautiful views out the back of the water, but not much to see or do inside. There is a cafe that serves drinks and snacks and done children's activities but besides that it's very small and not very interesting. A good, quick stop to enjoy the views but won't take... More

Het Steen is Antwerp’s oldest building. It lies on the Scheldt near the former peninsula known as ‘De Werf’ (the Yard). The first settlement appeared on De Werf, with earth ramparts, in the 9th century. A fortress was created in this way. In the late 12th or early 13th century, stone fortifications were built here, as well as Het Steen,... More

The castle is tiny but free to walk through and get some good photos of. I enjoyed the walk up to the castle with the fertility statue that is placed right to the left of the entryway.

The Steen Castle is the oldest building in Antwerpen. Great place for photographs. After you pay your visit to the Cathedral and to Town Hall walk towards the river and then you will find yourself at the Steen Castle. There is now a children's activity center inside that looks new and interesting. Great view of the river activity. Enjoy!
