Great place for family. My family all loved Antwerp.
I really enjoyed the city. Old but classis, decent vibe, safe, and modern shopping street etc. Oh you should try the many chocolate shops too. I strongly recommend to stay close to Groenplaats then it will allow you to walk to almost every hot places. Most of them are all within walking distance if you stay close to the plaza. Food was nice though a bit overpriced. Comparing to Brussel, Antwerp was quiet, and better for family to stay away from crowd but enjoy old Belgium. (I couldn't believe Antwerp is the largest city in Belgium.) Recommend for family vacation!

    Stunning
Such a stunning Cathedral on the outside and beautiful on the inside too, dominated the skyline in Antwerp old town and it looks even better at night. Costs €12 to enter but it’s great to wander around and admire the Interior decorating. A must see.

    It's a cathedral
Extraordinary wooden carving and panelling. Stunning roof, art (including original Rubens), and windows. Pleasing from the outside too, in a lovely square and the spire is a dominating feature of the whole area.

Spendid edifice that contains several altar pieces by Rubens
This is the centre piece of the old town, a splendid Gothic cathedral coanting splendid works of art, most notably by Peter Paul Rubens. The choir stalls, depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, are also remarkable. Well worth a visit, even by unbelievers.

    A Building of Hidden Stories
The cathedral is worth a visit for the architecture and stained glass windows alone. However, if you can time your visit to join a guide it makes it all the more worth while. My English speaking guide provided so much invaluable information about the art work in the cathedral that I would have been completely ignorant of. It was truly fascinating.

Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerpen, Belgium
A very beautiful cathedral in Antwerpen. You can visit it every day, from 10.00am-5.00 pm, on Saturday from 10.00 am-3.00 pm and on Sunday from 1 pm. till 5.00 pm. Check though the website for changes. You have to buy a ticket to be able to enter the cathedral, the individual ticket costs 12 euro. Interesting facts: The church's spire is 123 meters (404 ft) tall. Total surface area of the floor: 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft). Capacity: 2,400 seats. In principle, the cathedral can hold 25,000 people. Its maintenance costs 1.5 million euro annually.

    Church with some fascinating displays
We toured with our guide during a day trip. At first it was because of some key Reubens paintings but that blossomed into multiple interesting nuggets. Unfortunately many of the other items of interest have been lost or removed like altars, wall paintings, etc. Still worth the price of admissions - primarily if you have a guide to explain what you are seeing.

    Largest Gothic cathedral in Belgium
The first thing that struck you as you approached the Cathedral of Our Lady in the heart of Antwerp's historic old town is the immense size of the church, dwarfing all the surrounding medieval buildings that crowd around it. This Roman Catholic cathedral has stood proudly as the pride of Antwerp for over 5 centuries, with construction spanning 169 years until its completion in 1521. The stunning outcome is a beguiling blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, with its tower rising 123 metres over the city, making it not only the largest Gothic church in Belgium, but also the tallest building in Antwerp. The church apparently housed an impressive collection of paintings, but you would need to fork out €12 just to enter the church. If you're not an art enthusiast like me, then it may not be worthwhile to pay this relatively steep entry fee. Just like the Nello & Patrasche Statue lying gratifyingly on the triangular plaza outside the church, merely admiring its remarkable architecture from the outside is enough to satiate my wanderlust vibes.

    Interesting church
We visited, and entry was covered since we had the antwerp card (otherwise 12 euro). Several Rubens paintings and many other interesting displays. We linked up with one of the free tours, which was excellent, they announce tours forming in various languages.

The imposing cathedral is under some external renovation but is well worth the visit because of its vast treasures and rich history. There is an entrance fee into the church, a shop and a small cafe, part of the commercialisation to help maintain the place. This late Gothic style of architecture has the tallest 123-metre tower, which dominates the skyline. The Ruben paintings add to the site's mystique, with its crypt, two impressive organs and numerous chapels and carvings with biblical themes, some having been brought from other parts of the country. It is a functioning church with services advertised within the building.

The English-language guided tour was absolutely fantastic. It was practically a graduate seminar on the Baroque, filled with fascinating insights into the church and its art. Two hours just flew by. A real highlight of our time in Antwerp.

The works exhibited in this cathedral go beyond the simple works of a sacred nature, usually exhibited in places of this kind. The works of Rubens are simply stunning , as are those of Shute by Jan Fabre. Simply thrilling.

Overlooking the current restoration work, the Cathedral is pretty amazing. On the outside, the spire towers over old town and the black cupola is unique and intriguing. Once inside, you are presented with an expansive, bright space full of stained glass and religious artifacts.

Was walking past, so decided to visit. Glad I did. Incredible cathedral with interesting stories/history, architecture and art work inside. Was a bit surprised by the entrance fee requirement - seemed unusual to most cathedrals/churches. Absolutely terrific though. There also appears to be a cafe connected to the Cathedral as well.
