A lovely old avenue of linden trees provides a tranquil place to relax. There are places to sit and enjoy the ambience or just take a leisurely walk.

It's the museum and gardens. This is unlike any museum I've visited- you can 'swim' underwater in a real pool. Walk through monumental iron art (Frank Stella). Be pleasantly startled by art that is not mainstream by any measure. Lunch there and listen in to the conversations- the museum sparks discussion. Outside is a plant landscape sculpture that is best in late spring. I must return!

A visit to The Hague is not complete without a walk down this street. I love the wide road, lovely big trees and impressive buildings which are 100’s of years old.
At the end is the Hotel Des Indes which is a gorgeous hotel that you can stay in or visit for a meal or drinks.
Depending on the season, there are often exhibitions and festivals down this street. I like attending the Embassy Festival and the Christmas Market.

This is a leafy street in downtown Den Haag. While locals may be more interesting in its historical story, it is indeed an ordinary road that might not be too appealing to tourists.

The Lange Voorhout is an L-shaped treelined walkway in the Hague, dating back to the 15th century when the Klooster kerk (church) at the starting point was built. Now it is bordered by many historical buildings such as the Hotel des Indes and the Escher museum. Recently it has been refurbished to become an outdoor exposition of nicely lit statues and sculptures.

There are always events and markets on the avenue. Then it is the most worthwhile.
2018 was the world championship in sand sculpture in the Lange Voorhout. It is impressive to see how much sensitivity and perseverance is being worked on the sculptures.
However, the markets are also great for walking - and the Escher Museum is in the immediate vicinity

Here you are at the heart of Colonial history, with the yellow façade of HOTEL DES INDES, the Escher museum in Queen Emma's Royal Palace...

A lovely little street often full of art, music, antiques and festivities. This gem is off the beaten track and is a hotspot that you have to visit. There are some lovely restaurants and cafes near by as well as the Escher museum and Palace at either end. It’s a must visit if you are in Den Haag. I visit every time I go!

The Lange Voorhout is one of the most beautiful lanes in the Hague, perhaps even the whole of the Netherlands. Every season gives a different perspective, various events being held hear year round. This time autumn saw leaves fall from trees. But still this lane is charming as ever.
