The Louwman Museum is home to the world's oldest private collection of motor cars, compiled by two generations of the Louwman family. The museum dates back to 1934 and now comprises over two hundred and fifty antique and classic motor cars. Experts regard the collection as one of the most beautiful in the World. The museum exudes passion. Each car has its own story to tell, its own contribution to history. The motor car is a mirror of culture.

The collection is housed in a purpose-built museum in The Hague, the city where P.W. Louwman established his Dodge and Chrysler import company. The building, designed by American architect Michael Graves, blends in sympathetically with its historic surroundings. The landscape gardens, designed by Lodewijk Baljon, complement the architecture of the building.

very nice tour through the museum according to a time-line from the early days up to very exclusive collections of race-cars. For couples it might be not interesting when one is not interested in cars. Than it's a long way to the exit and the other might feel himself pulled to the exit :-) But an amazing collection of cars.... More

This is by far the most beautiful car museum I've been. The building, the collection (from the earliest cars up to the seventies) and the presentation is simply fantastic. I would say that even if you're not so into cars, you have to admire some of the craftsmanship and creativity that has gone into the unique cars that are being... More

It all starts in the late 1800-s with horse drawn carriages and steam engines and then moving through the exhibit in chronological order. The collection of cars is exquisite. The story of Louwman is truly interesting. A beautiful privately owned museum. It's refreshing to see that these things can happen too without the help of governments.

I pass this museum almost every day, on my way to work and finally, due to an unexpected snowfall which meant that we had to re-think our days plans, we decided to pay a visit to this museum. I want to state for the record, that I am not a car lover, have no interest in cars, and was expected... More

For years I have driven past while in Holland on business and so last week I visited this museum. It was fantastic. At least 3 or 4 times bigger than I expected, with a huge array of vehicles and equally interesting automobilia displays. In true Dutch tradition it was immaculate, the floor to ceiling glass displays were so clean I... More

Nice museum with beautiful old and antique cars, even my favourite car: Citroen DS. Personel very friendly and accurate, bringing drinks and snacks in a nice tempo.

All auto museums have different expertise. I've been to more than a dozen or so around the world. For the true automobile fan deep down, this is the best museum to see the development of an icon. It was first class and completely captivating. 2 1/4 hours was only enough for 1/2 the museum...at my pace. The art museum I... More

Worth a day trip. One of the most beautiful car museums I've seen in my life. Since Evert Louwman moved the museum from Raamsdonkveer to The Hague it's been on my shortlist. I've worked in the museum in Raamsdonkveer in the nineties for a year and at that time he already had a remarkable collection, which he managed to enrich... More

But seriously, this is such an underrated gem in The Hague (already notorious for being a boring capital), no one seems to know about it (even locals), it's not on TV, the news, there are no events, posters...NADA. But it should go down in history as one of the best museums ever made--and I'm not even a car enthusiast. Granted,... More

Not terribly well served by public transport from The Hague at the weekends with only one bus per hour but well worth the effort. An international display, rather than a local motor museum, it has to be one of the most beautifully set out motor museums I have been to. Allow a good 2.5 to 3 hours; more if you... More
