Very nice square a little far from the most important points of interest. The presence of the red street lamps is original and very suitable for city relaxation. In the summer I think I attend gatherings and events.

This is a very active square in Rotterdam with a movie theater, ballet theater, and several restaurants with open air seating around. Cars are not allowed nearby, but lookout for the bikes! What was really interesting about this square was the design. The light fixtures around reminded me of offshore cranes, and the surfacing of the square resembled different surfaces you might find on offshore structures. Really interesting. This is a happening place in downtown Rotterdam, there was music and plent of people getting together.

The square has two theatres, movie theatre and restaurants with open seating. The Film Festival takes place attached to this area. The square is well designed, with crane like spot lighting, which are adjusted if there are any activities on the square, the floor is made of different materials with integrated a stage in the floor. The architecture around is contemporary and eclectic, on a sunny day it is a great place to enjoy a coffee or meal overlooking the square. The shopping street is in the next lane and has all kinds brands, also a lane of fast food outlets is close by, all these make it a good place to come for an outing, The square is walking distance from the Rotterdam Central Station.

The Schouwburgplein (roughly translates to 'Theater Square') is a big, futuristic looking square in the middle of the Rotterdam theater district. Surrounded by two theaters, a blockbuster cinema and another, smaller theater within walking distance, this square is an important piece in the center of the city. The square is also the focal point of the annual film festival (IFFR, every late January). Despite it's importance, locals have mixed opinions on this square. Some say it's too desolate, and it does not try to connect with it's surroundings. Other people love it for it's futuristic look and originality. Whether you like it or not you are bound to remember this place.
