Opened in 1874, it seamlessly combines the world of the past, present and the future. A fascinating permanent collection, and there are special exhibitions, events and guided tours. The history of the Netherlands is covered with special attention on Rotterdam as a world port. The building is situated in the picturesque open-air harbour museum crammed with old buildings, historic ships... More

This museum was clearly geared towards kids but adults will like it as well. Their exhibitions were full of games, visitors can try some games while still actively learning the subject matter. They were called Off Shore, Masterpieces, Brainwaves, Living on Water, Professor Splash, Sea Castle, and the World on Your Plate. What I like from the museum was they... More

While the museum is modern and its exhibitions are interesting, it's a bit disappointing. It's geared mostly towards kids and there is not that much to see - it only looks big from the outside. Furthermore, not everything is translated into English - come on its 21st century. From the positive things, the new "Offshore experience" is great and the... More

Rotterdam is a real 'harbour city', so the Maritime Museum really fits here. The museum often has temporary expositions, one of them (dec 2016) was called 'the Offshore Experience'. Allowing visitors to learn more about the maritime/offshore industry in a really fun way (kids would really like this as well).

They even had the stimulator for rig offshore. Very informative and educative. a very remarkable museum in the middle of the city. we went here on winter, not much queuing and we went there for free because a mature couple just gave us a ticket. they also have a children playground on the top of the museum.

The museum has something for everyone. The design is quite interesting (you walk all the way to the top floor on a gangway), it has different sections where you can lose track of time - you can choose to visit the offshore experience, see specialized vessels and play with the simulators to install monopiles for wind mills and land helicopters.... The majority of the museum was children oriented with interactive games and not much of history and exhibits. Very interesting the visit in the boats, although few were open, around 5 boats in total. I wouldnt recomment it unless you have kids or you are not tourist.

The Maritime offers a lot of excitement for children and has a lot of expositions for all ages. We regularly go there with our child and he loves it
