The very best antiquities museum in Holland

Ancient Egypt presents itself with a temple and a grand floor, but most of all the Romans, their glass, their way of life, their elegance, it's all here

Went to Leiden for a day trip from Brussels (3+ hours by train). Was excited about this museum but have to say for that price (9,50 Euro) I was expecting much more! I was especially excited about the Egyptian section, but it was closed! And nobody told me that before, nor was there a reduction in price. If you are... More

We visited this Museum shortly after they reopened their Greek, Roman and Etruscan galleries. The antiquities come from old collections going back to the 17th century and are beautifully displayed and explained. The highlight of the collection is an Egyptian temple of Isis erected within the entrance hall. Do not miss the statues of Roman emperors from a temple of... More

This is a fantastic museum with a large collection of Egyptian artefact. You will get an idea of the rise and falls of European civilisation. You may be able to spend any amount of time inside.

This gorgeous museum houses a great range of artifacts from across antiquity. Their collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts was particularly impressive, including a wide range of mummies. Well worth a visit and one should take their time to experience all it has to offer. I did however find it a little difficult to find as the entrance isn't very clear... More

The museum has bits from pretty much every European civilization, it is interesting to visit. The Egyptian temple is an unexpected pleasant surprise

One of the best ancient history museums I've visited. Not as huge as the Met in NYC but impressive none the less. Great exhibits and some very unique artifacts. I especially enjoyed the explanation of the Dark Ages in the Netherlands.

Real treasures from antic times. Mummies, sarcophagi and even a small temple from Egypt. Vases and statues from Greece and Rome. Many other artefacts from the Middle East. Too much to all sum up. The top floor has a very well designed exposition about the archaeology from The Netherlands with some interactive elements for kids.
